Adenomyosis

I had an ultrasound earlier which showed I have adenomyosis.
It is largely asymptomatic as I do not have heavy or painful periods, but I do have a feeling of pressure/constantly need to use the loo hence the ultrasound where I was told I have an enlarged uterus and adenomyosis.
I have now read that adenomyosis puts me at risk of certain cancers. Would it be reasonable of me to consider requesting a hysterectomy? I am not
planning on having more children.

How old are you?

I was diagnosed relatively recently (47). My only symptom is very heavy and unpredictable periods. Some bleeding in between.

i have been recommended to have mirena coil which I am getting fitted soon. Hysterectomy sounds overkill for me, but it may not be for you. I suspect they will want you to try eg mirena coil/ hrt first

I have this, had no idea until I had a scan (for something else). Didn’t know it increases the risk of other cancers? I’m mainly asymptomatic too so rarely even think about it.

I think it can very slightly but it’s not something my GP thinks is worth worrying about. HRT reduces the risk of some cancers

Thanks. Just had a quick Google and it seems pretty rare.
