Feel like everyone always rings OUR doorbell on the gate

We live in a cul-de-sac ( is that how you spell it ?? ).. anyway, there is a gate and three houses behind it, one of them is ours.

of course we have a nice relationship with our neighbours, but one thing is really bugging me. I work from home and I feel like a lot of deliveries / even visitors / the communal gardener, always rings my house from the gate. It’s so annoying. Today it has rung at least 3 times and none of those times, it was for us.

fair enough, one of the times, the neighbours weren’t in. But it also happens when they’re in. Yes, people can get it wrong sometimes and ring the wrong house, but it’s constant. It disturbs my peace.

would it be hostile to talk to them about it and ask if they also have a lot of deliveries ringing their house ? If the communal gardener always rings on their bell too ? If my visitors also get it wrong sometimes ?

it’s hostile isn’t it ? It bothers me especially when their visitors do it. Or just now, a delivery came and they’re in, but I had to open the gate as they rang on mine.

It must be annoying , but what do you mean by hostile?

BoxOfCats · 13/01/2026 18:26

Are the bells clearly labelled enough? House number and maybe names too?

GreenJeIIy · 13/01/2026 18:26

Photo of bell set up would help

Declutteringhopeful · 13/01/2026 18:26

Just put a sign next to your bell saying this bell is for number 30 ONLY

every time the bell rings for someone else say can you ring 28 then. Ring door bell on the gate type thing.

I just mean, it wouldn’t be nice to mention it to the neighbours. It may come across hostile.

Yeah you can definitely tell. I guess people make mistakes. But it’s annoying.

I will speak to the neighbours but frame it as you work from home and the constant bell going is disturbing your meetings. I think you should put a sign next to your bell as well saying like pp said, it is just for your house

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 13/01/2026 18:32

Is it because they know you are usually in?
The communal visitors wouldn’t bother me.
Also maybe they are pressing everyone’s bell.
As for your neighbours visitors, if it bothers you then stop answering/opening the gate.
