Threatened by a male taxi driver today who got out his car

I just need someone to talk to really as I’m still really shaken up and embarrassed at the whole situation.

I was driving on my way to work this morning when a car was a second away from colliding with me, I was very shaken and instinctively sounded my horn several times.

There was a taxi driver in front of me at the time. He stopped his veichle in the middle of the road and got out his car and aggressively approached my car, shouting and asking what my problem was. I tried to explain to him that I wasn’t beeping at him but the car who was behind me earlier but he didn’t listen to me at all. The man became confrontational, repeatedly telling me to get out of my car so we could "sort it out." And squaring up to me and asking me to fight him. He had blocked the road so I couldn’t even go around him and there was a lot of traffic.

I didn’t manage to get any of his details as I was very shook up with the whole situation. I wish I could reverse time and not have beeped my horn at all:(

sorry if this isn’t the thread I just wanted to talk to someone

Do you have a dashcam or get his reg? He needs reporting to the police.

I hope you feel better soon.

I didn’t get anything unfortunately as I was really shaken up😩, but this situation has made me buy a dashcam

That’s horrible, no wonder you are shaken. Unfortunately some blokes turn into angry little tyrants when they get behind the wheel of a car, it’s pathetic but not uncommon. If he threatened you physically I would report him both to the police and the taxi firm he works for. It probably won’t go anywhere, but it’s still worth registering that such behaviour isn’t acceptable, imo.

Yes definitely. I have asked a few local shops nearby to see if they have any cctv footage x

If you do find the registration number then also report him to the taxi licence people at your local authority. I had a similar situation where a taxi driver shouted at me because I couldn't safely pull out of a junction. The licensing officer called him in and told him that if he continued to be aggressive then his license could be revoked. ( I worked for the local authority and knew the licencing officer personally, I wasn't the 1st to complain about the driver)

Horrible man.
It sounds like your use of the horn was (unusually!) actually a legitimate one, to make sure the person who nearly collided into your rear was awake and aware of you.

I was very shaken and instinctively sounded my horn several times.

Instinct, to me, might involve a blast on the horn.
But the fact you then kept repeating it, would suggest to me (if I were the car in front) that you were having a go at me.

No, I wouldn't have necessarily turned it into a bigger issue than it need have been like the taxi driver did, but then, I wouldn't have turned the near miss into a bigger incident that it needed to be.

If you want to sound your horn aggressively like that, then you will get kick back.

Anonladyx · 13/01/2026 18:49

Of course I’m going to sound my horn especially when this woman was still driving like a maniac behind me
