If you never had period pains or pmt did you find menopause easier ?

I am hoping so, I’ve never had any period pains or symptoms or pmt and I never had any pregnancy symptoms or sickness, sore boobs or anything.
If you are not prone to hormonal side effects did you notice menopause so much?
My mum had never heard of peri and said her periods just stopped at 43 and she had no other symptoms and didn’t notice anything else, she too had no period pains or pmt.
Is it wishful thinking to think I might be lucky too then?

Yeah I actually wonder if there is a reverse correlation? People who’s life with periods was very difficult might suggest their hormones were not in balance and the removal of periods/ that hormonal make up to another was actually helpful. (I have an acquaintance who suffered horrific migraines through her adult life which vanished on menopause)….. whereas if your system was actually in harmony, the shift may upset what had been a good balance?

no idea if that is borne out by fact, but sort of makes intuitive sense?

EverythingGolden · 13/01/2026 15:53

Terrible period pain when younger and awful pms but no morning sickness and sailed through the menopause, so not sure what that is indicating.

dudsville · 13/01/2026 15:53

When I was young I had a relatively easy go of it. My pmt was mostly just heightened anxiety for a few days. Peri was the tougest tube for me. Menopause has been easy, just some added warmth and brain fog. So my experience fits your theory op.

This does make some sense to me actually, I feel loads better without my period, physically and emotionally.

Interesting question, I never suffered with period pains at all . I have the mirena coil and it’s stopped my periods completely . My sister bought a menopause testing kit from Amazon about a year ago I did one and it came up straight away with a positive . I was getting hot flushes but realised after a chat with my colleagues yesterday that I hadn’t had one for weeks , surely that’s not it 🤷‍♀️

TheWytch · 13/01/2026 16:00

I had really easy periods, 5 days, no PMT or pain and very light flow. The only problem was hormonal migraines.

Menopause hit like a ton of bricks. I finally understood what flooding meant and I aged 40 years virtually overnight. Endless hot flushes and such disabling joint problems that the GP initially thought I had developed RA. Blood tests showed huge inflammation and I was put on HRT.

Within a week I was pretty much back to normal but every time I try to come off the symptoms return in full force. I am probably on it for life now.

sorrynotathome · 13/01/2026 16:01

I had some period pain but it never got in the way of my life. I also often had the "mittelschmerz" pain of ovulation but that tended to be quite brief. I never took the contraceptive pill. My perimenopause started late 40s and symptoms were not bad - mainly hot flushes but not the dripping kind. Menopause was then short-cut by breast cancer and oestrogen blockers but symptoms were not problematic. No HRT as I can't have it due to the cancer. I have vigorously addressed my lifestyle and I do believe this has helped massively.

lobeydosser · 13/01/2026 16:09

@goodatsomething

Hope for your sake that it might be so but as others have said it's unique to each individual.

My experience, for what it's worth, is that any period pains or PMT were fairly minor. Always regular every month - apart from one time when I spent a week on a train in my 20s and it sent my system out of sync! Got back on track fairly swiftly.
I was blessed to conceive without intervention at nearly 40. Had minor nausea for a while - bit like being hungover. Wasn't ever actually sick, boobs slightly sore. Maybe my hormones weren't ever super strong though? I had a bit of difficulty establishing feeding although I did continue till DC was a year. But I never really noticed letdown or leaky boobs.

Periods just tapered off in late 40s - spotting and sporadic, not heavier at all. Certainly not flooding. Had hot flushes on and off for a few years but for me it was just like being embarrassed all over my body!

Into menopause at 52.

Hope it's not too much wishful thinking to think you might also be lucky with your menopause!

Ive suffered my whole life with my period. Debilitating period pain, heaviness and pms (pmdd). Late forties now and menopause cant come quick enough for me.

Regular as clockwork, every 28 days but my first irregular period (14 days!) last month so im hoping that's the beginning of the end for me.

No idea how perimenpause will be for me, although the pms wasn't as bad on the shorter cycle, so im living in hope not too bad.

Hoping for you too op!

I hear you, my bloody painful periods are still coming every 35ish days…bastards!!! I’m 46 and wish they’d fuck alllllll the way off. My mum and Gran didn’t go through menopause till their mid 50’s so I think that’s when it’ll happen for me. I am getting perimenopause signs and my period is heavier.

My mum had some flooding, hot flashes for about 18 months then that was it…done!

Morepositivemum · 13/01/2026 16:52

No period pains but perimenopause has knocked me, fluttering in chest, itching, can cry on a seconds notice, awake a number of times over the night, and have turned into a bitch!!!! Currently looking into hrt and antidepressants (sigh!) But I know many people who have no issues (40s)

CointreauVersial · 13/01/2026 16:53

Easy periods.
Easy (and early) menopause.

EasternStandard · 13/01/2026 16:54

I’ve never had period pains or pmt particularly and peri is mostly some fogginess and a rage which was helped with by HRT. No hot flushes, insomnia or the rest so far.

SoSoLong · 13/01/2026 17:04

Easy periods, no issues with taking the pill, no pms, now towards the end of peri (I think) and no problems.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/01/2026 17:09

I’ve never had period problems, although have been getting hormonal migraines for the last few years. GP has put me on the mini pill to help them. My mum never mentioned her menopause ever, I asked her about it and her periods just stopped. No other side effects. So fingers crossed I’ll be the same.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/01/2026 17:11

I think now talk of the menopause, and how awful is everywhere. (Particularly at my work) it’s difficult to remember that it doesn’t affect everyone.

JohnTheRevelator · 13/01/2026 17:12

Well I'm the exact opposite. I had terrible period problems for years, from my teens. Awful pain and heavy bleeding. But I went through the menopause with no problems whatsoever.

ginasevern · 13/01/2026 17:18

I thought I was going to die every single period. They were so, so bad. Doubled over with stomach cramps, really heavy bleeding, vomitting and sometimes fainting. At age 50 my periods became erratic, lighter and so much easier, and at 52 they just stopped. I had no menopause symptoms whatsoever - nothing. I feel a little bit vindicated because I suffered so terribly every month from the age of 12.

Getoffofmyland · 13/01/2026 17:34

I never had PMT or period pains, and have had minimal menopausal symptoms - maybe just bad sleep and slight anxiety, I’m pretty sure my Mum and older sister similar. We have all had three children if that makes a difference.

WannaSweetie · 13/01/2026 19:11

Easy & light periods every 3 weeks which stopped around aged 43, had night time hot flushes for about 4 months, no HRT & took herbal stuff, no other symptoms really other than a bit of brain fog. My Mum was the same

Bikergran · 13/01/2026 20:32

I never had serious period pains or many PMT issues. Menopause wasn't too bad, didn't get depression, brain fog etc, but I did get some horrendously heavy periods during the process, which led to a few embarrassing incidents, then later on I used to get severe hot flushes, which were a nuisance as I was still working. Due to these and severe vaginal dryness/atrophy I was given low-dose HRT, which I am still on, and my gynaecologist says I can continue on it for life if I wish.

HelenaWaiting · 13/01/2026 20:35

I found the menopause a total non-event. A handful of hot flushes and that was it. I never really had period pains either.

Kendodd · 13/01/2026 20:36

I had light period pain sometimes but was very (vomit) sick during pregnancy.
Menopause has been ok for me, not completely unnoticed but not difficult really.

MovedlikeHarlowinMonteCarlo · 13/01/2026 20:36

DancingInTheMoonlights · 13/01/2026 15:05

No, I unfortunately for me it was the opposite - easy teens, hormones, very light periods, pregnancy was a breeze but perimenopause has hit me like a brick. It sucks.

Same. My infrequent periods are so so painful now.

You do have my sympathies. I found that the intensity of my periods has just been insane. And this is probably TMI, so apologies, but the size of the clots were ridiculous. I couldn’t leave the house whilst on my period as they were unmanageable. I did have several HRT reviews (after putting up with it for months and months) - and I’m thankful to say that this has lessened - but periods in general have just escalated since perimenopause.
