To request them not to park on my drive?

Cheeeesedoff · 12/01/2026 09:59

Sibling has an old Land Rover that leaks oil. They have already got oil on my driveway. I requested they park on the road. They ignored this. Next time they turned up I went out and said "Please don't park on my drive"....much swearing and tyre screeching.... sibling drove off....not contacted me since...

There have been other instances of them disrespecting my home.

Your sibling is selfish and rude.

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 12/01/2026 10:01

Good riddance.

MissMoneyFairy · 12/01/2026 10:03

Get the Driveway Doctor in and send them the bill, don't contact sibling.

I'm afraid they are the "I'm always right" type. I've done them a few favours lately. But I make a simple reasonable request and get anger in response. Hey ho...

Nicecatneighbour · 12/01/2026 10:21

Stop with the favours, they are not respectful.

Curious what sort of age we're talking.
And presumably male???

AnSolas · 12/01/2026 10:33

You know YANBU.

That the other "GrownUp" is being an ass and is choosing to drive a vehicle which is leaking oil onto the public roads.

Flouncing to biting ones nose to spite ones face springs to mind

YANBU. And they should fix their bloody leak!

That surprised me.

Seems like a hellish immature sibling. Do they not have a drive of their own?

I think your request was very fair and her response is ridiculous.

Sorry - never nice to have made siblings :(

DottyLottieLou · 12/01/2026 13:49

Let them stew. And next time they want a favour, the answer is no.

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 12/01/2026 13:52

Leave her to it....

It's really inconsiderate and rude.

Whowhatwhere21 · 12/01/2026 13:53

I wouldn't want them to either. My dad used to pour coca cola on the oil stains on our drive and it worked. This was 20 odd yrs ago though so not sure if it'll still work but its cheap enough to give it a try

BlackCatsAreBrilliant · 12/01/2026 13:59

Not what you asked, but in the distant past we used to use Gunk to clean up oil leaks on the drive.

Why presumably male?

JacquesHarlow · 12/01/2026 18:09

DoubleHardBastard · 12/01/2026 18:07

Why presumably male?

Because it's Mumsnet and only males can be grumpy, unreasonable and aggressive

I thought the same as men, especially, (in my experience) are wedded to old land rovers as "projects".

In this instance Vera comes to mind!

WhatYouWearing · 12/01/2026 18:14

If she gave a shit and really couldnt fix the leak she could have brought some cardboard etc to put under it.

sounds like they wanted the drama!

I just think she cant see things from other peoples point of view. Because she doesn't care, then no-one else should

Let them screech out of your life in their crap car. Don't let them bully you.

Cheeeesedoff · 18/01/2026 11:22

She's not been in contact since. I'm very sad about this but I can't keep being the one to placate her anger all the time. I'm tempted to message and ask how she is but I feel like this would be to my emotional detriment. She's has been unpleasant to me on numerous occasions but on the other hand I thought we were getting on ok.

If you are only getting on providing everything is on her terms then thats not really getting on at all. Relationships are built on mutual respect, not one person getting their own way and the other placating that.
