No period !

My period has been really late this time and that never actually happens. So I’m really confused as to why it’s happened. I’m young, healthy but I think it might be because of stress. However it’s now day 40 in my cycle and I usually get my period every 28 days or so. There’s no chance of pregnancy as the all the tests were negative and last time I did get my period after unprotected s**.. I do have a doctors appointment booked for couple days time but I just want to know if anyone has an idea as to why it’s so late. Thanks!

Can you exclude any of Dr Google's possible reasons for missed periods? -
Significant stress, extreme weight changes (loss or gain), excessive exercise, PCOS, hormonal birth control, or the beginning of menopause, thyroid issues, diabetes, medications known to produce this effect.

Thanks for your reply. But I’m 24 so I can’t have started menopause yet, I’m not sure about weight gain (but I’ve not been eating properly recently). I do have a 2 year old so I’m not sure about Pcos. I’m just really not sure

You've not been eating properly recently. If you're undernourished then your body will drop the thing it needs least. Eat properly, try to get more sleep, step up the self care and I bet you'll be back to normal next month.

It's not that unusual to skip one period. I think it happened to me a couple of times, maybe a handful from age 13 to 48.

A one time miss isn't likely to be PCOS, you'd need irregular periods or missed ones over a long-term period and happening repeatedly and PCOS requires 2 out of 3 symptoms (the other being follicles near the ovaries and hormones not being normal particularly androgens and others).

However it's good you got a GP appointment it's likely stress if you aren't pregnant but it's good to check and they'll likely do some bloods to see if anything else is off. Otherwise it may just be a one off and go back to normal but obviously still get investigations and if continues not coming then see them again if inital tests don't show anything. When is your appointment?
