Rather have cats

Our dogs will be 11 & 9 this year. Am I being awful to think I’d rather have 2 cats when the inevitable comes these two are so difficult especially between 5pm & 7pm when the buggering hours ensued.

Awful to who?

The dogs don't know what you're thinking.

I have cats. So much easier than dogs for lazy people like me!

'The buggering hours?'

HoseGoblin · 11/01/2026 23:23

Idk, depends on the cat, mine is infinitely more of a pain in the arse than the dog.

BIWI · 11/01/2026 23:24

I’d always rather have cats! So much less work.

Just don’t have pets?

TeenLifeMum · 11/01/2026 23:25

I love my dog but will I get another when she eventually dies (hoping to get 14 years from her because the last one broke my heart with lymphoma age 4 😭) I’m not sure. It’s a big commitment and like having dc, you go through the stages. I loved baby/toddler dc but now I have teens, would I have another baby? Hell no. I think you need the pets that suit the stage you’re at in life. A dog is perfect for us right now. When we’re old, cats would be easier. I love both so happy either way.

I think cats are the best pets and easiest. Mine interacts with me everyday but doesn't need much care other than cleaning out her little tray, feeding and letting in and out from the garden. We have high fences that she cannot climb so we do not have the worry of her getting lost or hurt. Now that she is older she is happy to be left for one night/ the day. I love dogs but wouldn't want to be tied to the care of one.

Why are they difficult? Seems they aren’t really your thing so yea get cats. Our last dog just died this weekend. We already have two cats. I’m not getting another dog mainly as we plan a year abroad in 2027. But I miss her like crazy.

'The buggering hours?'

Are you seriously telling us your family doesn't have a buggering hour? 🤣
