Intense lower back pain

In two minds what to do and wondered if anyone else has experienced the same. I’m 36 weeks and 3 days pregnant and the last few days I’ve had such bad lower back pain that seems to be getting worse as the days go on. I can barely walk or move around for an hour without the pain and aches starting to which they get so intense throughout the day causing movement and walking to be so painful and still hurt even when resting. Tonight it’s so bad it’s brought me to tears😂🙈 I’ve googled it and as you can imagine it says all sorts.

it sounds like it would be worth talking to your mid wife. It could be Brixton Hicks but for me they weren’t this intense. I’d say check-in with a healthcare professional.

It's likely sciatic nerve pressure as baby turns and begins to move lower.
Try lying on your back with a high bolster under your knees to give a bit of low back traction.
A TENS on your low back can help, too (Amazon).
If you can get an urgent appt with a physiotherapist that can also be helpful.
However, it is never wrong to consult with your GP or OBGYN.

Please talk to your midwife/obstetric unit

It sounds like pelvic girdle pain. It can be absolutely debilitating. Please look at the resources from pelvicpartnership.org.uk !

Talk to midwife or call labour ward for advice

Lightuptheroom · 11/01/2026 19:53

Contact your midwife , when I was expecting ds (23 years ago but still!) I spent the whole day in agonising back pain, by 1.30am the following morning, my waters had broken and he'd arrived 7 weeks early.

Are you constipated at all? I had excruciating lower back pain and could also hardly walk or stand up straight. Went away once I was able to do the toilet properly a few days later though

Bsxx · 11/01/2026 20:49

Not constipated no. It’s like at night my back stiffens up and I literally struggle to walk without pain. Even turning in bed is agonising but it’s definitely getting worse and happening a lot earlier on in the day than it has been. I’m having a lot of pelvic pressure too like he’s going to fall out😂

I would think this is pretty obvious but you may well be in early labour - all of my labour pain was in my back. You need to be assessed, especially if you’re experiencing a lot of pressure.
