To ask what would be your ideal fantasy claim to fame?

There’s a thread on here about tenuous claims to fame.

This makes me sound EXTREMELY random - but for a while now I wish I could say that I’d attended the same school as the late newsreader Kenneth Kendall.

i know - it’s bizarre, random and I don’t know exactly why.

Is there anyone out there like me who has an ideal/fantasy claim to fame?

Was he the bloke on Treasure Hunt?

That is extremely random. OP. I remember Kenneth Kendall but why him?

I would like to be famous for being a world expert in elephants. I don't know much about them but I find them fascinating and beautiful.

Was he the bloke on Treasure Hunt?

No - iirc correctly he was a BBC main news reader in early - mid 80s

He read the 9 o'clock BBC TV news in the 70s and maybe 80s. He was old then.

Actually he may have been but not as far as I’m aware

That’s the thing k don’t know why him! I think it’s because it’s a name from my childhood that you don’t hear now. I can remember being in my car in 2005 - and listened to Vernon Kay’s show and they mentioned Kenneth Kendall as part of a quiz - it was unusual to hear his name back in 2005 let alone now

Gosh that is random.

I met Kenneth and his partner Mark several times when i lived on the Isle of Wight. They had an art gallery in Cowes, which still exists. They were a lovely couple. Mark tragically died not long after Kenneth by suicide due to grief. They were very popular in Cowes and still talked about with great love and affection.

That’s very sad.

Lol. Do you want to start a new thread claiming this is your claim to fame and we'll play along? Seems harmless albeit unrelatable

Aw that’s lovely that you actually met him.

I read about what happened to Mark - very tragic - but it’s great to think that they are both thought of with such affection ❤️

Just googled and yes he was in the studio on Treasure Hunt while Anneka whizzed about in the chopper!

I don't remember him as a news reader but I loved Treasure Hunt!

Ah I’m the opposite! I remember him as a newsreader but not on Treasure Hunt!

The other reason why him I think is that tbh I love the way his name sounds. I think it trios of the tongue very nicely! It’s also a perfect name for a newsreader!

The owner of my local garage is called ‘Gary’’ and I could totally see Gary owning a garage - and I could totally imagine the main BBC news being read by Kenneth Kendall!

I agree about elephants being fascinating animals - it’s also touching when people talk about the way they feel and react to grief.

I'd love David Attenborough to be my grandad and for Dolly Parton to be my auntie. I'd like to have gone to school with Johnny Marr and for David Bowie to have been my best friends older brother.

OP, you should look for the Morecambe and Wise 1977 Christmas Show on YouTube. Kenneth Kendall appeared with them, singing There is Nothing Like a Dame.
So it seems he was a good sport, too.
