They are a pain to redeem, DD often gets them from IL'S for Christmas and we couldn't use it online so had to go in store to use it at Argos. I had to do it at the till though as you couldn't use it on the screens.

I much prefer the love4all vouchers they are much easier to use.

I agree. I have been given them as thankyou gifts after volunteering, and have never been able to spend them. I feel gutted at the waste of the givers' money.

Why? We’ve never had an issue

Well, we are going shopping tomorrow Me and one of my daughters so I will tell her to bring it and have a go thank you for that. It is reassuring.

I spent one last year and it was easy to use instore. The reason they get lots of complaints is because people try spending online but because it is used as a debit card instead of a gift voucher you have to spend what’s on the card or less you can’t add to it. So you can’t use £20 voucher for an online £30 spend because you can only use one bank card to pay online where as instore you can use multiple payment cards…. If that makes sense.

Coconutter24 · 10/01/2026 17:43

I had one last year for £100, I went into tkmaxx and spent £120 so I gave the cashier the gift voucher then used my debit card for the remaining £20. I’m not sure what the drama is.

You can do this in store. Online you can’t use it as part payment. Also you have to know how much is on the gift card and tell the cashier how much to put through on it - unlike say JL or m&s where they just scan the card and say ‘there’s £100 on here, shall I use it all?’

They’re not completely useless but they are the least convenient type of gift card I’ve ever received.

Nugg · 10/01/2026 17:51

The ones I’ve bought from Sainsbury’s are not even one for all they look even worse!! In one section it says redeem me and then use me online or in store and then below that it says it cannot be used in store!?

To ask you not to buy One4all gift cards
RedLorryYellowLorry75 · 10/01/2026 17:53

I work in a school and get given one nearly every Xmas and July when parents do a collection for staff. Admittedly I've never tried to spend them in a shop but I've never had an issue spending them online. The only slightly annoying thing is that they work like a credit card and most retailers you need enough to cover the balance as you can't use multiple cards to pay. I have got around this before by buying a virtual gift voucher for the specific retailer and using a combination of these to pay.

This and yet people on this thread are arguing that they're perfectly fine 😂

Lazychains · 10/01/2026 17:55

I have had an issue with them but I tend to spend them very promptly when I get them

OonaStubbs · 10/01/2026 18:00

They are not very good. I always give Amazon vouchers instead.

As far as losing money from One4All vouchers, I think that only happens after 2 years. And it's 45p a week IIRC.

Edited

You have to redeem them online then they send you the voucher on an email which can then use in store by scanning the bar code or online with the numbers.
When it says don't use in store it means you can't present that physical card in store.
I only know this because I got one of these for christmas and I made my dd19 do it for me!

HoseGoblin · 10/01/2026 18:08

What actually is the point of them? Why not just give someone cash instead of "here's some money but I've made it more difficult and convoluted for you to be able to use it for literally no reason"??

BunnyLake · 10/01/2026 18:08

I bought one for my dil for Christmas. She loved it and has already bought her desired present with it.

I was asked to get it as a present. I wouldn’t have given dil money for Christmas so I guess she wanted it to go towards the item she actually wanted, but was more than she wanted to ask me for.

You literally did give her money though, just in an awkward and unintuitive format. Why won't you give money but you will give a gift card that is essentially money with extra steps?

vjg13 · 10/01/2026 18:17

I’ve found them awful, tried one in Boots which involved multiple attempts to get it to work and also had the issue with needing to know the exact amount on the card in Wagamama.

P00hsticks · 10/01/2026 18:17

I'm with Dilbert's mum on the subject of giftcards

'Oh look, you got me a gift certificate... and it's got a little expiration date just at the bottom there. You traded your money for something that's a bit like money but much more restrictive ,'

Yeh I just said above about payment online. When I’ve received them I’ve only ever spent in store because it’s far easier

We got one for dc teacher at Christmas. It had about 200 quid on it. You couldn’t just hand over cash to a teacher.

YABU. They’re not that hard to spend. I’ve never had any problems with them only minor things. You can spend them in more places than most vouchers. Just don’t hang on to them for months and you won’t have to pay the charge. They are a gift - something you otherwise wouldn’t have and should be grateful for. Better than getting something you really don’t like or a voucher for a shop you don’t want anything from. They are an extra something you don’t have, not an alternative to something you’re owed.

Why couldn't you hand over cash to a teacher? I don't think they're paid so poorly that the sight of £200 in cash would end them.

I'd rather get an envelope full of cash than a gift card that limits where and how I can spend my money and takes money from me if I don't spend it quick enough.

Locutus2000 · 10/01/2026 18:27

I have four of the darn things sitting on my desk, probably all useless.

She asked for this. I had to google what it was. To me it’s no different to giving someone a gift voucher, that’s just money too isn’t it and gift vouchers (not money) are suggested as presents a lot on MN. I give money to my sons if they prefer that, I don’t give money as presents to anyone else, I don’t think that is unusual.

SomersetBrie · 10/01/2026 18:35

I hate them!
Two more have arrived for Christmas for the DC, which means I have given them the cash and now need to remember to spend them the next time I am in M&S.
As people above have said, you have to know what's on them - as I found to my cost when I went to M&S with one with £10 on it, only to have it refused. Then when I checked at home, I realised it was £9.55. I threw it in the bin in rage (then fished it out again and spend the new amount the next time I was shopping.)

Hankunamatata · 10/01/2026 18:36

I use mine online. Never been an issue but I spend them pretty quicky

With a gift voucher you can ask in the store how much is on it, with these, you need to know before you get there. So if you don't spend it all, you have to remember (or write down) that there is now £3.34 on it.
And you can't combine online, the way you can with gift cards.
