Combination microwave oven

Posting in AIBU hoping for quick answers. Brother has just bought a new house with a combination microwave oven. The instructions do not say whether he needs to remove the metal shelf/sides when using it as a microwave.

I've never used one so I can't advise him.

Does anyone know?

It's a CDA VK903 in case the model makes any difference.

I don’t have that model but mine doesn’t need to remove the metal shelf to use it as a microwave

Try googling the model number for the book if you haven't already. Sometimes they are online.

This search suggests that you do remove them. (pic will post when approved)

Different make here, but I need to remove the metal tray at the bottom when microwaving, but use it when it's for either combi or just convection cooking.

Mine you need to remove the metal shelf, can he download the user manual and see ?

bloodredfeaturewall · 10/01/2026 11:38

google the model & manual.

ours says to remove metal before using as mw

one of our ovens has a microwave setting and we don’t need to take the metal shelves out to use that as a microwave.

He's got the instructions. It definitely doesn't say anything about removing the metal shelf or shelf supports. I've pulled up the manual online to double check.

He's decided he will only use it as a microwave so to be on the safe side he's removed the metal shelf and side supports. It has a normal oven below so he can use that for all other cooking.

I take the metal shelf out, but it has a round metal 'trivet' for use on the microwave/grill function. It's something to do with the surface area of the metal.
A combi micro is great, we love the crisp dynamic option which cooks frozen beige goodies in less than half the normal time 😋
