I agree.

But I do hope this thread manages to stay focused on the people of Iran, not just become posters having a pop at each other.

Same.

Thank you for this thread OP. Let's hope it stays focused on the people of Iran.

Agree. And if the most I can do is “virtue signal” and show my Iranian friends that they aren’t alone then that‘s what I’ll do ❤️

Surprised Trump hasn't claimed he can end it yet. Wouldn't blame the people if they dreaded any US interference. They left them out to dry last time but saved the Shah's ass.

The US has been involved already and the attacks by Israel and the US weakened the regime and played a part.

I know you hate Trump but the priority is freedom for the Iranian people and if that requires the US intervening then that's what it takes. he has been way more vocal about the situation in Iran than Starmer and has been supporting the people and they being the coward Ayatollah if he continues to kill protesters.

I am all for the US intervening to end the Iranian, Venezuelan, Cuban and Syrian regimes. Decades of diplomatic efforts have done nothing.

Yep. Hear hear.

I'm not Iranian, but I went to a Free Iran protest in my nearest city on Saturday to show my support. I will go again next weekend too.

I hadn’t seen this thread - been glued to the news non stop the last few days, and praying for the incredibly brave people of Iran.

I am just proud the general public are not frightened to speak out anymore

Iranians are wonderful people.
More power to them! 👏👏👏

sorry I meant that they want change but not necessarily a reversion to what they had before.

i hadn’t seen him claiming to be interested in supporting a democracy rather than ruling

He’s been advocating for a democratic and secular Iran for years. At one point he was explicitly in support of a constitutional monarchy in Iran (in contrast to the autocratic one of his father), but he’s stepped back from that in recent years.

He is an intelligent man, and I suspect he has spent a lot of time considering the mistakes that led his family into exile. It’s a very delicate situation, and his approach is a wise one. I hope it is genuine, and that if he does return to Iran after a successful revolution, that he follows through.

Inside an exiled prince’s plan for regime change in Iran

In a series of conversations with POLITICO, Reza Pahlavi, son of the last shah, shared his blueprint for replacing Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s regime with a democracy.

I cannot imagine the Shah will return to Iran

But something needs to change

dottiehens · 13/01/2026 22:34

Yes, I hope Iran will be free soon. Brave people!!!

Alternativelyviewed · 13/01/2026 22:42

Just wondering as an Iranian right now what I would prefer?

The regime is clearly brutal, repressive and cracks down on any form of dissent. The country's limited resources are directed towards the armed forces rather than things the people need..like food and medicine.

Having said that it's laughable that so many people seem to care about the "sanctity of human life" and "human rights"..just because it's the trending new story.

15,000 people die every single day! due to starvation, where their bodies shut down after digesting their fat reserves, their muscles and then own organs..if we really cared about the sanctity of human life across the globe..food is the only thing they need. A relatively easy problem to resolve.

Lots of people die of hunger-related causes every day but it’s rarely just “not enough food, simple to solve”.

The top places right now for famine/famine risk (IPC): Gaza, Sudan, South Sudan, Yemen, Somalia, Haiti.

All of those are conflict-driven, with Iran a major driver of all but one of those conflicts. Quite a record.

If it’s starvation deaths you care about you really should care about Iran. (Maybe some of those people you find laughable have joined the dots).

I joined a free Iran protest today.
There were approx 200 of us. There were chants of 'long live the king', many photos of Pahlavi in the crowd. People were chanting, calling for help from the USA. On the main podium, there was a long flag pole holding three flags, one for Iran, USA, and Israel.

Clearly sponsored by by the US and Israel then.

Alternativelyviewed · 14/01/2026 07:13

@pandowo what do you think the parents of that protester about to be hanged today want ?

Apoarntlry the white house has a list of command centers for the brutal crackdown they could severely weaken the regime by targeting those command centers remembering the people are unarmed.

Oldglasses · 14/01/2026 07:28

Very much so.

Im sure Iranians would welcome any intervention from anywhere ,perhaps their neighbours are offering support for their brother's and sisters?

I'm sure the regimes in saudi and Qatar etc are all heart broken to witness this ?

*Other sponsors are available

Unarmed civilians (including children) being slaughtered by their own government, and that's your main concern?
You reveal yourself.

The US and Israel do not care about Iranians. You delude yourself if you think otherwise. Setting up Israel as some sort of saviour is hilarious.

Did you learn nothing after Iraq and Afghanistan?

HepzibahGreen · 14/01/2026 08:09

I am in awe of the incredibly brave people in Iran. Persians, Kurds, Armenians- all the wonderful people who have been suffering under a brutal regime. Especially the women.
By all accounts the streets are running with the blood of unarmed protesters who have been tirelessly risking everything by taking to the streets night after night for two and a half weeks.
Its not the first uprising but it’s by far the biggest.
They absolutely WILL need help to transition to the democracy they want and to rebuild their country. I don’t know what else we can do other than say that, and demand that the regime be proscribed as terrorists by all other countries and go from there.

Agree.
I was listening to a discussion yesterday about why the UK has not proscribed the IRGC. The reason given was that the UK has one one the last (if not the last) remaining western embassies in Tehran. Presumably that would close if we proscribed them.

pandowo · 14/01/2026 09:22

I don’t think the US getting involved is a good thing personally, we only have to look at history to see what good that does. But I also don’t think Iranians should be left helpless, the regime will end up killing far too many innocent people if something doesn’t happen to step in. So what’s the answer ?

I’m interested to know too from those who are against any help, from the US in particular. Should anyone step in or are they ok with the regime overthrowing people and continuing the violence?

USA, sadly.

There is no perfect answer but the Iranian people have shown they want change and are willing to effect that change by whatever means.

It’s not like Iraq/Afghanistan where widespread uprising wasn’t a thing.
