Curtain twitching

Cantheowneroftheredcorsapleasemovetheircar · 09/01/2026 11:54

Im a curtain twitcher. I love it.

Mr and Mrs Barky Dog just had their ocado delivery.
Noone has moved into Sarah and James's old house across the road yet, looking forward to seeing who it will be and watching them move in.
Policeman's teenage daughter came home really drunk the other night. Good for her.

Are you a curtain twitcher? What gets you twitching? Do you think your neighbours curtain twitch you back?

I am not, I prefer to sit out the back and watch the animals rather than neighbours.
Husband is a bit of a twitcher though, or as I call him, a nosy bastard, depends which way you look at it.😉

Teenagerantruns · 09/01/2026 12:01

Yes, we live in a small estate with mainly retired people, who are always arguing with each other.
So mark is upset tthat Sara wont let him use her parking space, even though she dosent actually live here, bought the place in covid but never moved in, no idea why.
Racist over the road and his flag flying always ranting about illegal immigration to anyone that will listen. We live in back of beyond no illegal immigration, just legal ones who work in care homes as there are no young people here who want the job.
Mr bean opposite always has very elderly parents doing his garden, while he stands and watchs.
Everyone is cutain twitting here, 😂

Im OK with either description 🤣

I am very nosy. If I know you well, or I don't know you at all then I'm not nosy. If you're in-between then I'm very nosy. Neighbours fit perfectly into the in-between category and are right there, to be nosy about.

I voted not unreasonable btw...nothing wrong with being either.

Love it. Wish mine were more interesting.

Hopefully whoever moves in to the now empty house will provide light entertainment 😂

It was rented so there is currently speculation about who is landlord is, if they'll turn up, if they will do up the house, sell it, put new tenants in, who knows?

yanbu. I love to look but mostly twitch because I hear vehicles and fear someone’s making a dreaded unannounced visit so need to know if I should hide or just open door to Amazon guy.

This is another drama here, the delivery van parks for 30sec behind a parking space and old guy next door will run out saying hes blocked in, not that he actually wants to go anywhere, his car hasn't moved for a year.

See, I’d have to watch that for sheer entertainment. I have ndn like that if anyone gets near his boundary bit of driveway.

Im really normally not this curtain twitchy, l have had to take a few month's of work to care for my partner, this is providing me daily entertainment 😂

TheDandyLion · 09/01/2026 12:25

Yep, I set my desk up in the window in the front of my house and watch all the worlds comings and goings. I'm not far from a local park and the main river so it's a thoroughfare for dog walkers, and commuters. I presume the schools are shut today as we've had lots of young families with sleds and snowball fights.

I don't like Mark either but I am fascinated by Sarah.
Why does Sarah have an empty house? What's she doing with it? Will she ever move in or sell it? What are her plans? I'd be watching that with with equal parts fascination and frustration

No bloody idea, she comes round once a week to check it, very protective of her parking space but dosent drive.
She must have bought it at start of covid l think,? Can't remember, so decided to stay where she was about 20mins away by public transport, as she had good community there.
Shes had so many builders in doing cosmetic stuff but still never moves in..she could rent out for loads as so few rental properties here and big demand..

To be fair to mark, the car park spaces are in random places, Sarah's is outside his house so he had arrangement with previous owner that they swapped places so could both park outside thier own door, l dont like mark either but cant see what sarah has to gain by making him park outside her house..

Teenagerantruns · 09/01/2026 12:56

Thankfully all concerned in this drama are in the late 70's or early 80's and im hoping they not on mumsnet, they will definitely recognise themselves even though l changed the names😂

I'm a curtain twitcher, learned behaviour from my nosey mother

I heard a kerfuffle outside our house on Boxing Day - I watched on the doorbell camera for a bit, then went up to my bedroom to have a proper nosey.

It turns out our NDN's fella has a whole other woman/family and she turned up to have a go at NDN for being a "slapper who doesn't even work", "do you know he slept at mine for 8 nights in a row" etc etc

Other woman was drunk, fighting with the fella, cursing him up and down.... It was amusing to say the least, but I did feel sorry for NDN as she has a young child in the house

I also caught some hooligans smashing a car on the pub car park across the road a few years ago, me and my massive "scary" Rottweiler went out and saw them off 😂

Love a bit of curtain twitching

Ballycastle · 09/01/2026 12:59

Proud curtain twitcher here. Often see the local crackheads fighting. There's also a man who moved in a house a few doors down who never opens his blinds so can't have a nosy 😂 but his girlfriend is always coming and going with her clothes. I'm guessing they once lived together then split so he got this house and they're just on and off.

HelpMeGetThrough · 09/01/2026 13:03

Nah, don’t bother looking at all. Got a new neighbour next door, haven’t seen him for weeks or even met him.

Neighbour across the road died. I didn’t know for about 6 months.

That's so much better than my parking drama

We have a neighbour that we all try and avoid. If you say hello, how are you, you get chapter and verse regarding EVERYTHING in her life, past, present and future. Everything is delivered with a massive sigh, like living in a wind tunnel.
Anyway, my nice next door neighbour (and adjoining neighbour of pain in the arse neighbour) had some roofing work done, which she'd told her about. When the roofers turned up, PITA neighbour went mad, saying they'd traumatised their cat, wanted to know who the company was (read the van's signs, love) wanted to know if they employed immigrants (?), references from previous jobs, she was going to phone the police- again WTF? I'd heard a bit of it from the upstairs window so hot- footed it downstairs and went to get something from the car (very slowly!) The roofers had had some insulation blow over into my garden, fair enough these things happen, and the poor chap on the roof was apologising profusely and promising to clear it up, he'd do it right now etc etc, obviously due to the screeching witch out the front having a go at the company boss. It was epic!

understandyourdilemma · 09/01/2026 13:51

One neighbour gets large quantities of water delivered (like the water cooler stuff you get at work). We live in the Highlands of Scotland and have the most fantastic tap water. We wonder about crystal meth production... Shock

Another neighbour has an annexe, his son moved in to the annexe when he got divorced. Son (in his 50s) has takeaway delivered every night. His Dad (our neighbour) is elderly and needs help. His daughter drives 20 miles every day to help. Feckless son does nothing.

Neighbour 3 has a dog called Oscar. Oscar is badly behaved with no recall. This is what we hear early every morning: "Oscar" "Oscar!" "Oscar f'ing Oscar". We now call the dog OFO (short for O, fing O)

Fourth neighbour doesn't speak to anyone. We don't know their names. Except we do because they both have personalised number plates - Emma and Kieren, we know who you are! Grin

B1anche · 09/01/2026 13:52

My husband is a nosy bastard but I just can't get interested in my neighbours' comings and goings, unless there was some huge drama.

He's forever trying to fill me on the most mundane details, and, unless someone is being murdered, I just don't want to know!

HoseGoblin · 09/01/2026 13:54

My street is really boring, the most excitement we've had is Mr. & Mrs. Tacky Garden having a huge blazing row out the front of their house at 2am about a year ago. My husband and I were glued to the window listening in, sounded like she'd cheated on him with his best mate on a night out. Very dramatic.

Other than that we have no drama to nose at.

Empress13 · 09/01/2026 13:56

Next door she was crying her eyes out proper sobbing this morning ! (Semi detached)

understandyourdilemma · 09/01/2026 13:58

Also one night and random man was walking past our house - up and down, up and down, on the phone. By running from room to room as he passed I managed to glean that his 'girlfriend' was pregnant and he was trying to work out how to tell his wife!

Oh yes. I am nosy.
