Amazon Prime

What exactly is it? What do you get? I shop on Amazon a lot, usually get free delivery but last year I spent £63 on delivery charges.

I had Amazon music but cancelled the subscription. Would I get this back with Prime? Is it worth it?

I have Amazon Prime. I get free Amazon deliveries and the telly channel. I don’t get the music.

I have amazon prime free delivery usually next day, prime video i don't have the music. Its definitely worth it if you do a lot of shopping on amazon like I do

TheWytch · 07/01/2026 17:32

I've just cancelled mine.

I only signed up for the fast free delivery but was finding that more and more wasn't covered and even if it was Prime it was taking as long to dispatch as free delivery anyway.

It is for the best as I will group my purchases into fewer but bundled to get the free delivery.

We don't have a TV so the film options etc are of no use and I have music via Spotify (free).

Hollowvoice · 07/01/2026 17:36

If you use Deliveroo you can also get their "silver plus" subscription for free with Prime which saves the delivery fee on each order (to the grand tune of 79p but you know, every little helps!)

Acropolis49 · 07/01/2026 17:38

Its worth it for me personally. I shop a lot on amazon, we use Prime video and reading and O store all my photos on Amazon photos as storage is unlimited and I got fed up with other photo storage apps running out of space. You can also share your prime benefits with household members, meaning my DH and kids living at home can use my prime benefits in their own accounts, but we only pay for one.

NormalAuntFanny · 07/01/2026 17:50

We stopped using amazon because of trump and it's very liberating, saved an absolute fortune. I

Had to log into the app last week and was amazed at how much worse it had become in a year - pages and pages of off brand Chinese tat even if you search for a specific brand you get pages of shit.

The TV is equally bad for us and anything you want there you can get elsewhere.

X123x321X · 07/01/2026 17:54

I use Prime. Their delivery times have been crap for the last week. I hope it's just Christmas related.

GasPanic · 07/01/2026 17:57

If you do a lot of shopping on Amazon and use the TV/music/books it is pretty good value once you add in the discounts like you get on prime day.

I think there is an element of "market capture" though on Amazon. Some things on there can be very expensive if you are not careful and become used to clicking on stuff because it is easy. I think that is what they rely on.

RaininSummer · 07/01/2026 17:57

My prime gives me TV, free music, free delivery and a free kindle book each month. Edited to say that I forgot about the photo storage

Shinyandnew1 · 07/01/2026 18:22

We cancelled it, we never really watched anything on it.

The free delivery was useful but I just get it delivered to a local locker free now.

This is very true. I cancelled mine and saved a fortune on ordering Chinese crap. It used to be mostly branded products but now it’s just tat. The only thing useful is the streaming service but we use a student account for that and pay £4.99.

Zanatdy · 07/01/2026 18:28

I only really use mine for the deliveries. Every so often i’ll watch something on amazon prime. Once my kids have left home I don’t think i’ll keep the prime as most stuff I order is for them.

RessicaJabbit · 07/01/2026 18:28

There's actually loads of prime benefits people don't realise.

Prime gaming is a good example

One Audible book per month is included as well.

RedRiverShore6 · 07/01/2026 18:34

Probably get more for your money than subscribing to Netflix or Disney as you get delivery as well and other stuff and the TV is fairly comparable

Is there a minimum amount required for delivery to a locket?

RaininSummer · 07/01/2026 18:59

Don't you have to have an audible subscription for the free book. Never had that.

Nope! I do it all the time to get around the delivery charges.

Catza · 07/01/2026 19:35

If you spend £63 a year on delivery and have no interest in any of the "included with Prime" services, then it's not worth it as annual membership is more than what you paid lasted year.

elfendom1 · 07/01/2026 20:19

2 amazon accounts in the household, one with prime, one without. The same product is always pricier on the prime subscribed amazon count, so some of the 'free delivery' is built into the price. Overall if you order a lot it is probably of some value, but meh, prime video is atrocious. And now you have to pay separately for a pile of things despite being subscribed.

Sorry, I've just realised you need Amazon Music to get the free Audible book per month.

How do you get that? I use another family member's Prime but also pay for audible.

PoundlandColumbo · 07/01/2026 21:47

Sorry @Gingerkittykat, please see my post above yours.

I thought I knew all the prime benefits but I didn't know about that one, I can't see how to get it though, do you have to switch it on in some way?

Just seen your correction

RessicaJabbit · 08/01/2026 06:21

Oh and two Odeon tickets for £10
