To wonder what US Trump voters think now

Their country's reputation trashed. The man they voted for heavily implicated in the Epstein scandal. Contempt shown to them abroad.
About to completely shift Ukraine. Enabling Netanyahu to commit mass murder of children with their tax dollars. No roaring economy. The environment fucked probbaky beyond saving due to their inaction.
What, in all honesty, do the 75 million who have caused this catastrophe think?

America has a long history of purchasing land from other countries. Greenland’s population is less than what, 60,000 people? Barely even a city. It would be to their advantage to join with a richer country that can actually extract resources (experience in Alaska) and develop it properly

Denmark will do little more than sit on it

And how much would the Greenlanders benefit from the US bulldozing through their country? Very little I suspect.

Greenland has strict regulations in place to ensure that mineral extraction is carried out in a sensitive manner, blaming Denmark for not pillaging the territory is rather crass.

Unlike Europe, locals tend to profit from extraction. I literally know instant millionaires due to fracking. It would be better if locals benefited in this way rather than remaining impoverished and getting few benefits due to the odd way resource extraction works in Europe (it seems you do not own mineral or oil rights with the land in the UK, probably much the same in Europe)

Yes because all that is important in life is money isn't it!

The USA is insane. Of course Greenland don’t want any part of them.

What is with the refusal of the USA to respect the sovereignty of others?

SabrinaThwaite · 06/01/2026 13:47

Oil, coal, gold and silver rights belong to the state, other minerals to the landowner in the UK. All mineral rights in Greenland belong to the state.

I’m sure you do know instant millionaires that have sold their rights for fracking /- but that’s benefitting an individual, not communities.

Still, they, the local communities and the taxpayer are the ones that get landed with enormous clean up costs when the fracking companies file for bankruptcy when oil prices drop - US companies have a long history of doing exactly this. There’s no incentive for companies to do any clean up whilst solvent, and when they’ve gone bust it becomes someone else’s problem.

Still, as long as a few individuals make a killing, who gives a stuff eh?

They are joined with a richer country: Denmark.

And Denmark is a lot safer and less unstable than the USA.

Where are you reading that Greenlanders are “impoverished”?

They evidently don’t want the destruction of their environments for coins.

@Indiependant

I think to get a real answer to your initial question, you would need to differentiate between Trump voters and people who voted for Trump, as they're not necessarily the same.

As the second half of this thread shows, the former are beyond saving. Hopefully enough of the latter have retained some ability to process thought to make a difference.

Give it a rest FGS.

And for what? Honestly seems a huge missed opportunity. They may not look poor on paper, but the infrastructure is very limited and there is a real lack of development. More wealth flowing in from resource extraction (and, let’s face it, money flowing from US military bases) would be a huge benefit. Just my opinion but green types always push back

Imagine how dead inside - no, actually worse than dead. Diseased, disordered, repugnant - you would have to be, to think this is ok?

And yet, his voters will be coming out of the woodwork to defend it.

That's who we're dealing with.

I think it's the answer to the original question, though, and seems borne out by what the Trump supporters on here are saying.

It's the economy, as the saying goes. Or, more specifically, people who voted Trump imagined that they'd have more disposable income, more money, if he came to power. And as he does stuff like freeze funding to people who are unlikely to be his voters, and seize control of a very oil-rich country, these people probably will end up with more to spend, one way or another.

The cost will come in other ways, both in money and morality, but in a short term sense, that's what they want and that's what he's delivering. And in a way you can't fail to notice.

It would make life better for locals and really for everyone else if the resources are used in a productive way. I know it’s fashionable to think you can live without oil/minerals/metals but you cannot. Not well anyway.

Trump would turn off a child’s ventilator to charge his phone. So if you agree with him that’s on you .

No one’s impressed. No one thinks you’re clever. Sad sad sad

The important question being, of course, whether Greenland as a country and as a population actually want to be part of the US.

And they don't.

So that's really all it should come down to, isn't it.

Venezuela could have used its own oil in a productive way but from my understanding, the industry was not developed in a way to bring prosperity to the people. Their SOL plummeted and they fled all over the place (millions in my home country alone).

Venezuela used to be the richest country in South America! Now it’s among the poorest. I don’t necessarily think we should have intervened, btw, but it shows you exactly what their adoption of a totally discredited development model has wrought.

The US voted for a corrupt, racist sexual abuser who wouldn’t know a principle if it smacked him in the face

So pipe down

Yeah, I voted for him. Kamala would not have been any different to Biden. So even if I didn’t like Trump as a person, I wasn’t going to vote for someone who’d make my life materially worse. That would be incredibly stupid
