To go away on a long weekend break on my own…

So we live overseas, two small children.

I’ve booked a solo mini break for 3 days away. Boutique hotel, spa etc. It’s an hour flight away in a different country.

Husband is fine with it, our nanny can help as he often has to work late or go out in the evenings.

I’m looking forward to it as I have some chronic health conditions and I’m looking forward to some alone time. However, when people have found out I’m going ALONE they are shocked.

“Can’t I come with you?”
”Is it safe on your own?” (Yes!)
“You’ll be lonely and miss your family.”
”Your kids will miss you I could never leave MY kids.”
“Why do you want to be on your own? That’s weird.”

I love spending time on my own! In my twenties I was airline cabin crew and travelled all over the world. I was also happy to go and do things on my own in whatever city I was in.

We've always done this sort of thing ever since we got together; we'll each have a couple of long weekends per year doing our own thing, it's great. My MiL just can't get her head round it though, she's convinced that it's a sure sign that there's something deeply wrong with our marriage - always on about how 'Andrew [FIL] has never stayed away by himself in over 40 years', which is supposedly a good thing. The poor sod.

Me too. I’m always getting called brave. Brave being single and living my life don’t you know 😂

Enjoy! My partner ended our relationship 3 weeks ago via text and when I got home after work all his stuff had gone. Not heard from him since. I decided I need some time to myself so I have booked to go away for a weekend in a couple of weeks. Staying in a yha, so not as lovely as your spa! but I'm going to a beach with a lighthouse nearby and to a grotto with carvings and a nuns graveyard! I'm going to walk around the city walls and stop off at the shopping outlet on the way home. Can't wait!
I've had the "I could have come with you", "wow I could never do that on my own" "that's brave" etc!

Some people just don't appreciate some of us want alone time. I'm an only child and love my own company and have little family left and I live overseas. My husband has a huge family, we have a daughter and any hint of me doing ANYTHING alone is met with gasps of horror! They all forget I had a life before I met them!!

So let them gasp with horror?! Who cares what anyone else thinks - that's their problem, not yours.
Go out somewhere by yourself if you like.
