To have been so convinced it was real ?

Last night I dreamt j stopped my car on a hill for a short time and got out of the car but in that time my empty car hit the car behind, which was then travelling faster down the hill and looked on course to hit another car

Wanting to escape the situation I cycled away but there was a woman reading in the window in one of the houses and she noticed me I looked carried on cycling and arrived home hoping no one would recognise me

I then wanted to dispose of the bike but worried if people found out it would look suspicious

i then went in to dream there was an intruder in my house who I shouted at to get out

when I was in the dream I was convinced the whole scenario was so real. AIBU?

Definitely an anxiety dream. Do you feel something is out of your control in life and are trying to fix it maybe worrying about others judgement?

I quite often (last night actually) dream that I m either very late for work or just don't go to work for days and I don't call in sick either.

Then the dream will go one of two ways, I either desperately try to get into work unnoticed and go about my day feeling like I shouldn't be there or I try to scan my lanyard to get into my classroom block and it doesn't work.

This went on and a child let me in but when I got to my classroom an old man was there and he had my job!

I wake up in a panic.

In my whole career at this school (and before) I have hardly ever taken a day off or been late and if I have been ill I always call in that morning so I don't know where this comes from.

Or the other work dream where I dream a whole day of work, it's so realistic that I wake up and think I have done it, only to be disappointed that it's 6 am and it's all to come.

I have multiple vivid dreqms every single night. When one disturbs me I can be stewing over it for days.

They often involve me somehow not being able to get to my kids, me accidentally being separated from my kids and unable to get them back. My abusive ex finding us and doing awful things to me/my kids. And just to top it off my husband leaving me for his ex and them both finding my distress amusing.

I suppose it doesn't take a genius to interpret my dreams, sometimes they are more vague like yours (I often get the "teeth falling out" dreams) and sometimes I genuinely think dreams are just pure nonsense.

Interesting - thanks for your response on this.

interestingly I’ve never had a dream like yours. Mine are along the lines of not revising enough for exams and realise I’m going to fail and also sometimes uninvited intruders in my house

I have had the not revising enough for exam dream for decades im 52 and haven't sat an exam since my nurse training in the mid 90,s but I still regularly dream about it.

Does anyone else get that dream where you're trying to punch someone (for good reason of course) and your arm goes really limp halfway through the punch and you end up just sort of gently tapping their face? Or is that just me?

I dreamt I found a tin of beautiful blue paint and painted my front door with it. Now I want to do it for real.

Try Steel Teal by Frenchic. Our door gets lots of compliments 😅

The last really vivid dream I had was that I was married to Rick Astley and we were having a row because he was being completely unreasonable. I spent the rest of the day being cross with him and then remembering that we aren't really married.

Salvadoridory · 04/01/2026 16:08

Has anyone else ever taken Champix for smoking? The dreams were incredible, another world. I can still see them like real, clear memories rather than dreams. Mad and vivid and more alive than being alive.

Must have been something in the air last night. DH said he had the weirdest dream ever, which even contained a bit where he saw some people crossing a particular road and he got a sense of deja-vu. How can you get deja-vu in a dream?!

MyThreeWords · 04/01/2026 16:43

It sounds like your dream blended so well with normal, everyday anxiety about driving safety that it was easy for you to feel momentarily confused about whether it was a real or imagined episode, @2026myyear .

I have a lot of driving dreams. Usually they involve me driving WAY too fast, so that I am unable to slow down for bends etc, or driving in the dark with no lights on. Often, when driving in reality, I have a momentary feeling that I have often driven insanely fast or with no lights. Then I kind-of remember that this has only happened in dreams - but I still feel the raw sense of danger and guilt that would only be appropriate if i had done this in reality.

I have many strange dreams ,this one stood out.
I was making lemonade with Donald Trump and had an argument with him because he wasn't squeezing the lemons properly🤷

DH has a recurring dream that he’s murdered someone and it trying to think how to dispose of the body/get away with it!
I think it’s fairly common to dream you’ve done something bad /trying to escape if you’re worried about something or feel you can’t control something

Yep. Still haven’t read all of Hamlet. Totally bluffed my English A level.

Reallyoldperson · 04/01/2026 18:01

Mine are always about toilets. Either I can’t find one, or they don’t have a door on them, or people wander in and out of it while I’m sitting there.

Fingalscave · 04/01/2026 18:10

I have such entertaining dreams that it feels like going to the cinema. I often wake up laughing.

I'm always dreaming that I was one of a group of people who committed a murder decades ago and then hid the body. For various reasons, the hidden body is just about to be discovered, and my shameful, horrific, lifelong secret is about to be revealed. It is awful, terrifying, despair-inducing. The dead person is usually a family member who has in fact died.

Not had that one! But I often dream that I am trying to use my phone to make a call or send a text and I just CAN'T. Everything goes wrong. I can't press the buttons, or the screen just shows error messages or the wrong apps, etc. It is totally exhausting and stressful. There is always some emergency that makes the call really vital.

In the old dsys, before mobile phones, I had the same dreams about the old dial phones. Couldn't rotate the dial. Weak fingers. Interesting how our unconscious adapts to new tech when manifesting the same old neuroses.

Mydonkeyisred · 04/01/2026 18:26

I had the most realistic dream the other night. I woke up looking for the baby I give birth to in my dream.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 04/01/2026 18:27

I have very vivid dreams. Tends to go in cycles - I'll remember my dreams in great detail for a couple of nights, then not be able to remember for a few nights, then back to remembering.

If you want to check your dreams for a pattern, I recommend having a recording app on your phone and recording the dream as soon as you wake up, before you get up or move much. Try to remember the 'mood' the dream gave you too, it's possible to have dreams that are very benign but which give you a dreadful sense of fear or anxiety. If you keep a record for a couple of months, you will usually find a pattern emerging that might help you (although if it's just anxiety dreams every Sunday night, nothing can help except giving up your job!)

I have reoccurring dream I've got to phone 999 and it won't connect.

I had another car safety dream last night, so I can bring you this top tip: When carrying out research in the Antarctic, be careful to open all your car doors fully for a moment or two before getting out, This is to even out the presence of helium inside and outside the car, to avoid the possibility of an explosion.
