Child turning 2 during trip

Looking to book KLM flights. The website says if your child turns 2 during the trip you need to call them and book over the phone. I’ve been on hold to them for an hour and they close shortly.

I’m wondering if it would cause a problem if I just booked one way flights for 2 adults and a baby for the outbound flight and then book a separate return flight for 2 adults and a child as he turns 2 when we are there? Has anyone done this with KLM rather than booking over the phone? Thanks

It wouldn't cause any problems to book them separately except that it would probably be more expensive!

If it’s short haul you can definitely book 2 one ways and this is absolutely what I’d do- people do this all this all the time if plans aren’t certain or it’s cheaper/more convenient to go out BA but back Easyjet or whatever. However, if it’s long haul then it might only price a one way as a fully flex ticket and therefore be wayyy more expensive so you won’t want to do that and you’d be best trying again tomorrow if you can’t get through today.
