Temu Tat…

PinkPonyClubb · 03/01/2026 07:36

Does anyone else get annoyed by Temu gifts that break?

My young child is continually gifted Temu gifts from family members for birthdays and Christmas.

They are cheaply made and don’t last - two examples an aeroplane that wing broke when my child caught it’s side on a wooden floor while playing with it. A car that’s wheel snapped of when it travelled down a ramp.

And the latest - a light gun that batteries containers has smashed after being knocked of the table.

I know there has been a few knocks but these are children toys. So fed up of my 3 year old becoming upset because there toys are broken.

Please stop buying my child cheap tat.

Anyone else?

You have to be so careful what you buy from Amazon now because a lot of what’s on there is direct from Temu. I was looking for a particular toy for DGS, can’t remember what it was but I knew it would go in his mouth because he’s little. Some of the toys on Amazon looked like they’d be from Temu, so I had a look and they were.

I’ll only buy toys with brand names that I know and trust.

Yep you definitely have to look for the actual brands and avoid all the Xekels and Coodoos.

I despair of those who use Shein and Temu. Unsafe, unethical crap!

Don't be fooled by labels. The manufacturers provide clothes for all types of retailers to sell under their own name and designs.

Lots of local shops are on there now it’s not even all straight from China crap anymore so the judgement from people is hilarious.

Though let’s face it most local shops are still importing everything just charging more.

Temu is direct from Asian based manufacturer s there are absolutely no ‘ local shops’ on Temu. They are building logistic / warehouse centres in the UK and mainland Europe to shop the product to you quicker but the product will have always originated from Asia i.e China, Taiwan etc.

Are you sure it’s from Temu and not Amazon. Both basically sell the same stuff on some levels.

But have a word with the gifter if you think it will work. Ask for books instead.

Though I’ve got things form Argos that have barely lasted a few days as a toy and things from Amazon/Temu still going strong a year later. Some temu items are from local shops hobby craft is on there and sell there paint cheaper on temu than they do in store

Edited

Hobbycraft do not sell on Temu. What are you on about?

Yeah but you wouldn't give it as gifts, would you? Or give Temu toys, clothes or baby equipment to a child?

Well no , But they do sell wonderful plug in air fresheners that fit in the UK plugs and smell absolutely lush. Bought another 15 today for £6,50 😂

The amount of Chinese electronics, even small items, that I have seen inside of being extremely dangerous explains the prices. Hopefully you live alone at least.

I mean the refills. Not the actual plug.

You need to protect your child from irresponsible family. Don't even alow them to play with the shady toys - when buying from Temu/Amazon market place/ Shein and so on, there is literally noone responsible for safety - things like toxic materials, poisonous colours, unsafe parts which can injure your child when the toy breaks, batteries placed losely enough to get out.

Can your DP explain this to his family?

caringcarer · 05/01/2026 02:47

I've had some nice things from Temu. You get good and bad items from all retailers. Just pick more carefully.

BlackCoffeeAndSugar · 05/01/2026 05:36

I blame influencer culture. People see them with huge hauls of stuff but they are gifted it all to advertise.

I don't allow my baby to have temu toys. Safety concerns.

Icecreamandcoffee · 05/01/2026 05:55

Temu/ shein require you to read the description and reviews very carefully. Something a lot of people don't do. Also I've noticed a lot of the sellers are now also on Amazon (with an Amazon markup). So what was once only confined to Temu/ shein is now on Amazon. Among many people, they think if they are buying on Amazon they are buying something a bit decent (per their original model when they expanded out of books- decent things for cheaper delivered to your door) whereas a lot of the time now it's drop shipped crap the same as what's on Temu/ Shein/ Ali Baba.

I noticed it when buying my DC some dressing up outfits, all the top items were brands I also see on Temu but instead of been "flash sale £8" they were £14 prime delivery. The same with children's toys, a lot of the top items in the search are knock off now.

Mamma1828 · 05/01/2026 10:17

Can you make an Amazon list. Include inexpensive items on there. Tell family that DC don’t want anything else, cheap knock-offs will be rejected by them and donated.

Exactly the same things as the ones you buy here. We have no idea if they are safe either. Crazy eh?

What do trading standards do about things made the other side of the world that don’t have British regulations?

Kalimeras · 05/01/2026 12:29

It’s absolutely wild that people can’t connect the dots and realise if they’ve something on Etsy and temu it’s very likely that temu has actually stolen the design off the real designer.

all that stuff you’re returning is getting dumped straight into landfill

VikaOlson · 05/01/2026 13:10

UncannyFanny · 05/01/2026 12:12

Exactly the same things as the ones you buy here. We have no idea if they are safe either. Crazy eh?

How do you know they contain the same things?

You can be fairly sure that products sold in shops here meet basic safety standards, for plug in air fresheners:

  • Chemical Safety (UK REACH & CLP): Products must comply with UK REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) and the Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation, requiring manufacturers to:
  • Disclose potential chemical hazards.
  • Use standardised warning labels (e.g., P102: Keep out of reach of children; H317: May cause an allergic skin reaction).

Stuff you buy from Temu doesn't have to comply with anything, doesn't have to be tested, and doesn't have to accurately list ingredients or disclose hazards.
When Temu products have been tested, dangerous chemicals, incorrect labelling and unsafe design has been found in cleaning products, cosmetics, toys, clothes, plates, bottles, electronics - lots that would be illegal to be sold in the UK.

UncannyFanny · 05/01/2026 12:12

The air fresheners we buy here have to comply with relevant standards and regulations, such as REACH, CLP, COSHH, etc. and have to be CE marked to demonstrate compliance.

The ones from Temu don't, have been tested and found to contain formaldehyde, MIT, CMIT, lead, benzene and acetaldehyde, which are released into the air you breathe when they heat up.

All of these can cause long-term health issues.

There is a reason they're so cheap:

  1. They don't have to pay for testing for compliance with UK law.
  1. They put in any crap, mostly stuff that's not allowed here.
YellowPixie · 05/01/2026 14:01

But they're cheap and smell nice.... who cares if they're made by slaves and with stuff which will potentially make you ill.

Jesus wept, critical thinking is a dying art.

In case you hadn’t noticed we are all contaminated from multiple historic nuclear disasters, we all contain an excess burden of harmful chemicals which are going to cause disease and early deaths anyway and none of us can escape. We’re all doomed. But at least I’ll go smelling of lavender and meadow pansy 😃

VoodooQualities · 05/01/2026 14:14

I went on Temu but hated it - things popping up and flying around all over the place!

We've done several electrics orders on AliExpress recently for my campervan. DH started it by buying a new speedometer which runs off GPS (only £20) which we fitted together a while ago, it's brilliant and now I'm hooked.

Currently got an order on its way with a new Bluetooth/mp3 car stereo (£10) and all the fixings needed to connect up my new speakers!

Do you think there's no point to any safety regulations or chemical limits at all then?
