Traitors - Black Contestants - WARNING, SPOILERS! (Title edited by MNHQ)

SPOILER ALERT!!!

Time and time again black contestants are voted out early doors on reality show. The latest series of the traitors has been on for 2 days and 2 black women have already gone. I even checked the statistics with AI:

Black contestants are statistically eliminated earlier in some reality shows, particularly Survivorand Big Brother, a pattern that has been documented in studies and fan analyses, often attributed to systemic bias or strategic targeting, with discussions on the topic growing as diverse casting increases. While some instances involve clear gameplay, many viewers and players observe a recurring trend where Black individuals, especially women, are targeted in the early stages, leading to deep discussions about racism, privilege, and gameplay within these shows.

Isn’t it about time that protections were put in place on these shows, to make it a fair for all?

You're asking that question on a Labour dominated site 😆 🤣 ask the people who keep voting for them!

I notice that you haven't answered my question.

spoiler alert for Irish traitors

Interesting were they the only POC in the show?

There were 3 POC in the Irish version. An American black male who was a faithful. He lasted very close to the end despite being hilariously bad at the game. Then the two black women who had both come to Ireland as asylum seekers when they were younger. They were faithfuls and won it with another female.

I think this is sn interesting debate and I have noticed it many times so I do wonder does the same pattern happen in other countries? I've seen the Irish traitors that has bucked the trend but I've not seen the Oz, American or NZ traitors. Anyone know if similar happens or is it unique to UK?

The NZ version has representation form the Maori community. My knowledge is not good but I am fairly sure the Maori contestants were not winners and not in the last few despite a couple being strong players. That said, the NZ version is a bit odd as it is semi celebrity and a lot of them know each other on arrival so there are pre existing networks at play.

DS and I both said 'oh dear' when we saw on screen the people chosen for coffins.

Why have you highlighted with quotation the word science? And empirical evidence? Do you not believe in those two things? I mean, that fits…

@Arcticienne what do you mean by this?

I notice that you haven't answered my question.

No it's not patronising to notice a lack of female PM within the Labour Party. Yes, it's hypocritical to therefore keep voting for them, as per my original point about boycotting this programme. You think black people are really going to appreciate this usual interference from white people? The one poster said it's all unfolding before their eyes. Bit like your comparison to the Labour Party.

So it's not patronising to women to notice a lack of a female leader in Labour but it is patronising to black people to notice a pattern of behaviour in a TV programme?

Yeah, reported. This site teems with racists once any discussion around skin colour starts.

The two aren't even comparable if you want to continue with this line. As women, we can put ourselves in the shoes of other females. Are you black?

ForAzureSeal · 03/01/2026 12:14

Completely agree @Jimpson . It even happened on celebrity traitors where you would have thought participants would be more attuned to "unconscious" biases and reluctant to display them.

It is most frustrating when they try to justify the bias with spurious reasons. If you are a fan/student of the show (which everyone taking part is by now) you know the early banishments are just a numbers game. You don't need to justify it. You can just say - I have nothing to go on, I've barely met you all, so I'm picking a name at random. Perceptions of behaviour are so victim to existing prejudices and structural inequality. I'm always amazed people are so willing to wear their prejudice so openly.... "There's just something about them" 🫠

Noticing patterns of behaviour only counts/is allowed if you belong to the affected group?

Kingscallops · 03/01/2026 12:18

All this speculation on a programme hosted by a corporation which is well known for its focus on diversity and inclusion. Somebody needs to tell the BBC they must do better.

And they seem to think others can't see them for what they are, and that they're untouchable.

Pathetic. Far reaching and exactly what is happening when you're looking for racism on TV shows. Call anybody disagreeing with you racist.

You know that people have written about unconscious racism affecting voting patterns on Traitors prior to this series?

And sceptical as people might be, it is certainly worth noting that the first two people to leave the current series are not white.

Some people might think that this suggests the people who noticed this previously might have a point.

There are plenty of racists posting on here. I don't see how you can claim there aren't.

No. Commenting about ‘my kind’ and ‘problematic skin colour’ is racist. Disagreeing about bias on a TV show is not racist.

So two consecutive white people leave, that's to be expected? I was waiting for this to come up on the last celebrity jungle.

I think if you've previously read about unconscious racism on Traitors in previous series and dismissed it and then watch the current series and see who is voted off first and continue to dismiss the argument as being entirely without merit then that's a failure in thinking on your part.

The racist comments are why I think they are racist. Different views on the OP is to be expected. It’s the racist bit that’s racist. HTH.

Shedmistress · 03/01/2026 12:29

The producers put 4 people in positions of distrust. 2 were family members and 2 were friends. They might not have known that the 2 friends were friends or they might have, who knows.

But it is not a surprise that the person that turned their head when C said 'Traitors' gets voted out, and it isn't surprising that suspicion is on people who know each other.

Then I suggest observors take more pragmatic action, which is exactly what I suggested in the first place.

You're welcome to make your own interpretation of what I think. My comment referred to Mumsnet more generally. I have better things to do than debate the point with someone who apparently denies the existence of persistently racist posters on the platform.

Have a pleasant day.

I know what you have suggested. But you have said that it is patronising to black people to notice these things in the first place.
