Has anyone gone to see the Women in Mind stage show?

A group of us booked to see it last week for a relatives birthday treat, AND it was very strange, I could not fathom what it was about, it was so confusing that I had to come home and look up the ‘message’ it was supposed to covey.

I am very confused why it has so many positive 4/5 and 5/5 reviews.

anyone else seen it? AIBU

We saw it and YANBU! I love - really love - Alan Ayckbourn and booked it immediately I saw it was one of his plays. It bore some of his hallmarks, but was a lot darker than I was expecting. Reading the programme notes, it premiered in the 1980s, when mental health wasn’t something that was openly discussed or well understood and I think you do need to see it in that context - it was clearly ground breaking in its time. But yes - not really the “hilarious comedy” as per the billing and maybe an odd choice for the festive period?

It’s an Alan Ayckbourn play, not a ‘stage show’ maybe your expectations were off?

Thank you for your responses. I did check synopsis & reviews before going (which I do before going to any show/play) but as you say the billing was opposite to the actual play. I thought that RR would add more of a comedy value that his character actually did.

I saw it a few weeks ago with my dd who is a big Sheridan Smith fan. I found it a bit confusing at first until I worked out what was going on. I thought it was funny at times and moving at others although the last scene was too OTT for me. My dd absolutely loved it.
