What and how much did you bake over Christmas?

I’m shattered after hosting my first Christmas. Will not be in a rush to host for a while. I made so much bloody food I don’t think I will be able took at a stand mixer for months.

i probably made 5x more than I typically do.

Mince pies, ginger bread, Yule log, cinnamon buns, sausage rolls. You name it really.

Ahh @Lolare I used to bake a lot for Christmas too. I have only ever hosted my immediate family (ie the people who live here) and one or maybe two others but still always overbaked, so I sympathise.

I keep a note from year to year and have cut it down a lot.

I have ditched mince pies after the year when I threw a load out in February; I don't make a batch of brownies as they would be uneaten for too long; and I no longer make the Yule log as it really doesn't keep and no one is hungry enough on Chr Day.

I make two small Chr cakes and give one to a friend; and I make two batches of rocky road. I also make a half version of Nigella's glorious chocolate trifle (tho raspberry not cherry) and a hot chocolate pudding a couple of times. All that's left is some of the Chr cake.

I agree with some PPs – with a couple of tubs of chocs, sweet stuff you are gifted (likely with visitors) and everything else that you are eating anyway, loads of baking is not really needed (especially if the only people to eat it are some folk who don’t like cake haha. How are they related to me??).

I always have a baking day once I’ve finished work…I potter around the kitchen all day and make as many baked goods as I can manage. Always mince pies and gingerbread, this year I made Nigella’s clementine cake which was a mistake because most of it went mouldy before we had chance to eat it. Ds2 made rocky road and I also iced the Christmas cake, but Dh made it. Well, 2 actually as he did one for his parents.
I enjoy it though - it marks the start of Christmas proper for me. If you don’t like doing it and find it stressful don’t do it!
