new years eve my car battery went. i was at home. i intended to go out, so i rang breakdown. by the time they came they guy said they cant replace it as the garage is shut. he had to test the battery was gone so jump started it.
my local garages were shut so i couldnt take the car anywhere.

would i be unreaonable to ring breakdown again tomorrow as a quick way to get the battery fixed. there is a charge as i called them about the same thing.

im meant to pick up my son from his dads but i told my son about the car and his dad is refusing to bring him home and said a car battery is an easy fix.

That maybe the case but im on my own with no clue what to do.

Halfords will be open tomorrow. Just get a new battery from there.

EatSleepDreamRepeat · 01/01/2026 21:08

Halfords will replace. If it doesn't start ask round your neighbours someone is bound to have jump leads

madameMscastle · 01/01/2026 21:09

the battery was dead so im not sure if it can hold charge. car most likely wont start tomorrow.

You could get a mobile mechanic to bring a battery round and fit it. It won’t be as cheap as getting one yourself and doing it, but if you are confident doing that then it is a option

You might get it started with a jump from the neighbours though?

Halfords do a battery replacement at home service. We used them a few years ago, they came out the next day iir.

Jump the car off a neighbour and buy one from
Halfords or any chain tyre type place, they take seconds to fit.

Should do, it’s less than a 10 minute job. As long as they can get one from a motor factors (which shouldn’t be a issue)

ClassicStripe · 01/01/2026 21:33

Halfords come out to fit it. They also come out to fit tyres.

CalmShaker · 01/01/2026 21:36

Is it a manual transmission? If so get someone to push start / bump you and drive to Halfords

StCuntyMcCunterson · 01/01/2026 21:55

Post on your local Facebook group asking for a bump or jump start. Someone will help. Batteries are easy to fit but sometimes they’re a real fuck about because of different sizing and stuff so just take it to Halfords. How much is the charge for breakdown?

Yes batteries are very easy and quick to fit, and they’ll easily be able to get hold of the right one. I’ve replaced batteries myself before - so easy you could probably train a monkey to do it.

If you want a response you’re probably better off picking up the phone rather than e mailing.
