Next year, I suggest trying BBC Scotland at 1130 for their Hogmanay - not immune to the odd ‘meh’ act but it makes a change from Graham and Jules. They go to Edinburgh for the lights & bells, you could switch back at 2358 for Big Ben… HNY!

I thought it was all a bit cringe this year.

EachandEveryone · 01/01/2026 00:32

I thought it was Jim Moir!

Shane? I was wondering what he's on, because it's clearly not the same planet as the other 2!

Having just googled “Shane from boyzone” I think you’re right. Strong wrong un vibes.

hmdxm1 · 01/01/2026 00:33

I’m honestly not a negative ninny and normally love the London fireworks show but that’s got to be one of the worst I’ve seen, not in terms of the fireworks themselves they looked great, but 2025 just seemed a really lack lustre year of celebrations?!

Boudy · 01/01/2026 00:34

I fear Ronan is giving off ancient Cliff Richard vibes re the 'dancing'😱

Redburnett · 01/01/2026 00:37

The fireworks were so boring and the soundtrack so awful that i had to give up.

Very funny moment on Graham Norton tonight when the boy from Adolescence mentioned that he had school tomorrow and someone else joked about school on new years day...
The pretence that they are live is silly really when we know they aren't!

That cracked me up!

Aplstrudl · 01/01/2026 00:41

The music and voiceovers were absolutely appalling. Only what I’d expect from Khan.

Benmac · 01/01/2026 00:42

TV was awful. Watching you tube. Scottish hogmanay shows like last call and Mason boyne. Interspersed with music clips. Bowie signing Hereos atm

Tiredofitallagain · 01/01/2026 00:42

I think there was so much that went on in 2025 that they couldn't even touch. I missed the drones too but loved the beginning with the sunshine.

@Travelfairy I hope 2026 is blessedly free of such nonsense for you.

Aw thank you, I appreciate that x

the80sweregreat · 01/01/2026 00:47

I don’t watch sport, but the ladies did so well last year.
This year is a male World Cup one .. oh no is all I can say about that !

Hattermadness · 01/01/2026 00:47

This Kooks song is so dull. Is it new?

Dull indeed 😒

the80sweregreat · 01/01/2026 00:50

I like the kooks
it’s an old song though

Teacupover5 · 01/01/2026 00:51

lol!!!…embarrassing-Ronnie Wood like your grandad on Karaoke -I am nearly 60 so not young myself -and that awful band The Kooks -guy sounds like he is singing into a mobile phone on a train going through a tunnel !…just Stop 🙄

the80sweregreat · 01/01/2026 00:52

Ahh! I hate that they pretend it’s NYE when this was recorded weeks ago!

bellabasset · 01/01/2026 00:52

I've been watchingRonan Keating who I used to see when we popped to Ureland for the weekend. Afternoon train to Gatwick, fly to Dublin, then Sligo or Knock and hure car staying at a local b and b. Fly Sligo to Gatwick Monday and be back by Clapham Common as Concorde roared overhead. I could hear Concorde as it flew over Bristol when we first moved to Cornwall. Still think I'm in London when planes to and from Newquay fly overhead and from the plane the Cornish scenery over Newquay reminds me of the West Coast of Ireland. Had some hairy flights into Knock.Happy New Year , praying for some peace.

Lulu really does have a great plastic surgeon. Hers never looks terrible like so many celebs.

InOverMyHead84 · 01/01/2026 00:56

Love the Hootenanny. They are all utterly half cut. Especially Lulu who is now singing David Bowie for some reason.

Florencesndzebedee · 01/01/2026 00:59

Enjoyed the spectacle of the fireworks but wish they wouldn’t put on the music - it was rubbish. Jane McFonald was better than Roman or the Hootenany, and that’s saying something!

We're English, live in England - but the Hogmanay celebrations (and comedies/other regular shows before) on BBC Scotland are compulsory for us. The London programme is so often truly lacklustre, although Sam Ryder and Rick Astley (watched later on catch-up) have been rare highlights in previous years.

However, I didn't realise until this year that the Hogmanay programme is also pre-recorded three weeks or so in advance. I suppose I should have got a big clue from the fact that they no longer bill it as 'Hogmanay Live'! It was great to see Karen Dunbar and Tom Urie back this year too.

Quite jazzy

Love Olivia dean

Why are the BBC / Mayor of London adding these bloody graphics to the London eye for the TV coverage? Let the fireworks and music do their thing!

Agreed. I thought it really spoiled the show. We don’t need a narrative either. The music and the fireworks only please next year.

Teacupover5 · 01/01/2026 01:04

Imelda May is excellent !
