Lighthearted - first dance poll

Okay people. So the natural first dance choice for us is by Drake 'hold on, we're going home'

We're not Drake fans in particular.. possible predatory issues rated to him as an artist. But as a couple it has meaning to us in so far as it's mutual guilty pleasure track from the beginning of our relationship.

Other options would be Johnny Osbourne 'In your eyes' or The Cure ' Just Like Heaven'.

Yes, they're all worlds apart, but would appreciate input on whether Drake is unacceptable.. We both loved Michael Jackson as children, but wouldn't play any of his music post ' Leaving Neverland '. Thread is not debating this btw. This is for context.

Yes you are being unreasonable - Drake is a shit choice due to questionable behavior

No, you are not being unreasonable - (unless he does something shit before your wedding it's probably OK)

Music preferences aside on voting please 😊

Anyone else doing Drake is better than Drake IMo. I’d go with The Cure

ParallelLimes · 31/12/2025 21:08

Another vote for The Cure.

Honestly, don’t worry about any of it and just go for the sign you want! No one is going to do some sort of deep moral dive about it and if they do who cares. It’s your wedding, do the song you WANT!

NotAnotherScarf · 31/12/2025 21:09

Not so light hearted, ours was Whitney I will always love you, it was a good mates favourite song and he'd committed suicide 6 months earlier...

Ablondiebutagoody · 31/12/2025 21:30

All first dances are pretty cringe so don't worry about it

Checkenberger · 31/12/2025 21:55

Arctic Monkeys sang it better than Drake

RainbowZebraWarrior · 31/12/2025 22:01

Take it frome me, I had a nightmare with my husband about our first dance musical choice. I wanted The Universal by Blur. He wanted some sort of generic mush. We ended up with an ironic and deeply uncomfortable dance to Viva Forever by The Spice Girls. It wasn't good and the marriage didn't last.

I half joke, but it's actually true.

Pfpppl · 31/12/2025 22:49

I'd go with Drake. Don't know the second choice and I think the 3rd is too fast for a first dance. But have whatever you want, it's your wedding.

Subbyhubby · 31/12/2025 22:57

Nobody will care about the moral implications of your song choice. It’ll be half way through your wedding so hopefully by then everyone will be suitably merry and just content to watch you both try and not stand on each others feet.

Bonbontutu · 01/01/2026 16:59

Thank you for all you your replies. Based on the poll alone I think we might have to ditch Drake.

God this is definitely my least favourite part of wedding planning!!

@RainbowZebraWarrior your post made me laugh so much!! Thank you for sharing. I'm sorry the marriage didn't last, but the first dance will viva forever in my mind.

Go for whatever song you want, no one will care and if they do, so what? I got married years ago and didn’t get to choose own first dance, the dj played “I just called to say I loved you” Stevie Wonder. We both hated that song (I was an ex punk and husband a metal fan) but we just celebrated 40th anniversary so it wasn’t bad luck. Still can’t stand the song though.
