To ask for handhold - 2ww referral - suspected throat

Hello all,

I just wondered if anyone could keep me company as I am really struggling.

2 days ago I found a weird hard lump in my mouth. Went to dentist who said he doesn’t know what it is but has referred me under two week wait. Appointment was confirmed for next week with the Maxfax specialist within 2 hours. Guess the positive here is that I can’t fault the efficiency!

My dad died of throat cancer and it was the most horrendous treatment and way to die. I am haunted by it and now facing the diagnosis myself is sending me over the edge. I’m 32 with two young kids and simply couldn’t go through what he did (which ultimately didn’t work anyway).

So if anyone else is on a 2ww and wants to keep me company, or if anyone has had a suspect throat lesion before that was fine in the end, I would love to have someone to talk to.

I do actually have raging health anxiety and have had many 2ww referrals before which were fine, but don’t think I can blame this one on HA when there’s a lesion which has the dentist worried. 😞

Genuine apologies for the misuse of AIBU, I don’t think Health gets much traffic.

I’m really sorry this is happening to you. Of course you are thinking of your dad but remember it’s still more likely not to be cancer. I know that’s easier said than done ☹️

I wish you all the best. I completed treatment in Spetember for an oral cancer and was given the all clear - so far - in mid December. I am still totally exhausted and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.
