I have a toddler who will be put to bed between 7-8 and my husband works on oil rigs so he is away.

My friends are either ill with this horrible sickness bug that's going round or they are able to get out and about later as their children are older.

I'll have a glass of wine and some nice snacks while watching the telly but I feel a bit down about it for some reason.

Just me and the cats. I had an invitation to a party but I'm not well so I'm not going.

After some dinner, some games and maybe a little disco with our daughter; I’ll be sitting on the sofa watching stranger things with my exdp as we’ve separated but we’re still living together. We haven’t told any friends yet and luckily our good friends didn’t invite us over for nye drinks at theirs tonight as usual. I’m not sure I could have coped with more pretending.

edited to say: I’m not alone but feels very much like I am!

It’s normally too overpriced and busy to go out. Enjoy your cosy time and do something nice for yourself at home. HNY!

Totally understand how you feel, wish there was a way to set up a group video chat for us all 💔

Yes I am and perfectly happy about it. I gave up on going out on NYE years ago when I developed bad health problems. To my mind,it's too much like hard work! I'm quite happy staying in in the warm with some wine and nice food, and watching the fireworks on the TV.

Myblueclematis · 31/12/2025 21:18

It's 9.15pm, there have been intermittent fireworks going off since about 7pm, I can't find anything i really want to watch on TV or catchup TV so I have a feeling I will probably be in bed by 10.30 with my book.

It's as foggy as hell out there and has been most of the day so I am more than happy to not be going anywhere that would involve driving or even just opening the front door. 😆

I know this doesn't help but I think it's bananas having the 'new year' in the depths of winter. I ignore it as much as possible. March 1st would be so much more 'new' feeling.

Tomorrow life will go on as usual. Same for Christmas, thats gone too and all that prep, for what really? Just another day!

I'm not a fan of all this forced fun and prep so I ignore it and I feel no different. Life is very liberating when youre a grinch like me 😊

Its the last day of the year that's all. Shit still happens and always will.

I think.your sensible.

I think.its only when we are really young we think nye is something special.

I'll be at home with my dog, watching The Wire for the 3rd time. I've been invited to a house party but I have no desire to go, very happy to stay in, in my PJs.

The best series ever made!

Okiedokie123 · 31/12/2025 21:39

Me and I don’t mind a bit. :) I almost never have company in the evenings so it’s just like always for me.

BarilynBordeaux · 31/12/2025 21:40

Me! Been working all day so quite happy to come home and pass out in front of the tv. I love New Years and this year I’m feeling a bit despondent at having no one to share it with tbh, but I can chat to my lovely friends via WhatsApp.

Londonrach1 · 31/12/2025 21:41

I'm not as hot dh here but I'm already in bed as it's cold outside. I've five friends on their own and we messaging on Whatsapp...they all very pleased to finally be at a age where it doesn't matter if they on their own on nye. Have a lovely nye op

Kitterkitkat · 31/12/2025 23:00

Oh @WorkingMum1391 I can imagine if your OH is away you might feel a bit lonely.

Make yourself as comfortable as possible and enjoy your snacks, wine and viewing.

I've got a cold and haven't washed my hair so I'd rather do my snotting and endure sore throat and sinus pain in peace. Boyfriend has it too so he's at his home as well. It's only for a few hours then NYE over.

It used to be 1 April

I celebrate on 21st December, the Solstice when the year actually does turn and from then the days start getting longer. I don't understand the whole 01 January arbitrary date - celebrate when it really IS a new year!

Anyway. It's here now. I hope you all managed to enjoy yourselves, whatever you did. I went to bed early but woke up by myself at ten to twelve, and sat up while all my kids messaged in, which was lovely.
