Encouragement to buy black

I've come across some posts, mostly on social media by black people encouraging other black people to only buy from black people. It got me thinking, does this encourage segregation? If white people encouraged other white people to only buy from white people (which I'm sure happens - the world is a hateful place), there'd be uproar, and rightly so.

White people donโ€™t need empowerment. They are already the power holding group

the buy black is to support the oppressed group

You see the same for women promoting women-led businesses - that's because women-led businesses are in the minority and they often have far fewer resources to get themselves off the ground. Same goes for black-led businesses. It's raising awareness not segregating - none of these people say "DON'T BUY WHITE!"

Ah, OK. Thank you for explaining. It makes more sense now.

Amazon is owned by Jeff Bezos. One white bloke owns 10-15% of all shopping.

I think everyone already buys white.

Why not diversify?

Same for the Irish. My grandmother and her friends came over to England when the Irish faced horrible discrimination. My grandma would always make an effort to shop at Irish owned shops / stalls etc.

My Irish mother used to tell me that if every person who had Irish heritage bought Irish butter then Ireland would be the richest country in the world. I suppose she was jesting but it's a good point.

No Irish. No Blacks. No Dogs. wasn't it? Awful, this wasn't even that long ago.

People are just awful to each other.

Sadly they really can be.

I think itโ€™s odd. Are black businesses discriminated against? Do people really check the race of a business owner before deciding whether to buy something?

I buy most stuff online and it would never occur to me to check the colour of the owner before buying!
