All my historically fat friends have gone thin this year

Okay maybe not ALL of them, but a few friends/acquaintances who have been very big for years and years, tried everything but could never shift the slightest bit of weight, have all had dramatic transformations and shed many stones over the past year. It’s just becoming expected now whenever I see another formerly large acquaintance or relative pop up on my feed with a super slim selfie.

I (rightly or wrongly) suspect it’s got to be WLIs or similar? Although all are adamant it’s a strict diet only. Just to add there is NOTHING wrong with jabs at all, and I’m aware it’s absolutely none of my business, and I sound mean but I wouldn’t actually discuss this in RL. It just got me thinking that being overweight might be obsolete in a few years?

Anyone else noticing this trend with people they know?

Say that then. Don’t lie.

Don’t ask personal questions about someone’s weight. It’s got absolutely NOTHING to do with you.

Oneforallandallforone · 30/12/2025 22:21

I've noticed quite a few people join a gym at the same time and post stories and reels about their exercise regime. Somebody I know is posting regularly about all the time in the gym but she has been in the gym for years without any significant loss. She is now on weight loss injections and still posting about the gym. The weight loss is then accounted for apparently. I wonder if they actually think people believe them?

One guy I know told people he was taking the injections and then told them they hadn't worked out for him but he's still taking them.

I wouldn't have thought there was a stigma when so many people now take them.

Anybody who has been big for years and seemingly consistently loses weight through exercise is quite obviously on weight loss injections.
I'd like them myself tbh

Because it takes longer to digest food. I no longer have to think about how "naughty" I'm being for having a bit of fucking mayo on my salad.... my body now physically tells me "you are full, stop". I dont EVER have cravings for sweet shit anymore, I couldn't even tell you when I last had chocolate or sweets etc.

Exactly - how I wish I could join you.

Edited

I’ve never asked anyone. The people I know tend to be open and honest about it. Lying about it just comes across like you’re ashamed of it, like it’s less worthy of respect than doing it on your own.

SilenceInside · 30/12/2025 22:24

@Moro93 saying “it’s none of your business” is already way too much of a conversation about a topic that I don’t wish to discuss. And as if it would shut up the kind of people who ask these intrusive questions! No one is owed the truth about my medical choices from me. It’s simply because weight loss is visible that some people feel they can intrude and ask questions they would be unlikely to about other health issues. I don’t want to talk about it at all. I will say “no” if asked if I’m taking WLI, and I have said no to the one or two people rude enough to directly ask. I don’t care if people think that this is some kind of dreadful lie. Why does it matter to you if people withhold the facts from you??

Fitsthenewfat · 30/12/2025 22:25

But stuff you if you’re poor and not quite obese enough to receive help via WLI.

20bloodypounds · 30/12/2025 22:25

Fitsthenewfat · 30/12/2025 22:12

Just had a wishful thought …. I can do all the same things as you. Know the calorie and nutrients of all my food. Can plate my food intuitively. Know what will reduce evening snacking. But I don’t have the appetite suppressant of a WLI. So it’s a constant Herculean effort. Maybe when I reach non fat status (if ever) i could be prescribed a reward of NHS preventative maintenance wee dose, just to keep me on the straight and narrow. Oh my god you can tell how envious of all of you who have the money to pay for it!

I think that's one reason I'm so motivated to be able to change my habits and maintain - I could not afford to go down this route again. And I will have to stop completely at some point.

billandtedsexcellentadventure · 30/12/2025 22:25

Yes!! But everyone I know takes it are very cagey about it and say that there also exercising..

You can, I genuinely earn my supplementary money by doing surveys overnight when the insomnia hits (yes I have a job, dont qualify on NHS) where there's a will, there's a way.

They are exercising if they don’t want to lose muscle. They are also eating less. Also none of your business.

Why are so many people unable to control their appetite these days when this hasn't always been the case. What has changed?

SwingTheMonkey · 30/12/2025 22:29

inequalities · 30/12/2025 19:34

Yes, I suppose there's a happy medium to be struck. But my point was that many people seem to just feel jealous of these people who have lost the weight and I think they are being unrealistic about how they actually look. Unless they can afford surgery they will live with the evidence of weight loss forever. That's just a fact. So in other words, if you've worked hard all your life to stay slim and healthy, please don't get bent out of shape that others didn't bother as you will still look far better naked anyway.
Everyone should just do what makes them happy and confident.

Ooft. You just make yourself look like a nasty bitch saying something like this. Others didn’t bother? I don’t even know where to go with this.

SilenceInside · 30/12/2025 22:31

@CremeCarmel are you sure you can’t figure out what has changed in the world that correlates with an increase in obesity? The causes are pretty well known. What is different about the environment we are in compared to 100 years ago?

Applesonthelawn · 30/12/2025 22:32

SilenceInside · 30/12/2025 21:42

@Applesonthelawn why does your BIL owe you a discussion on his personal medical decisions? It’s not your business and it doesn’t matter at all to you. Just because you can see the weight loss doesn’t mean you are owed any information about it.

Nobody should ever mislead. It's just stupid and pointless. No-one asked him so why does he have to go out of his way to mislead people? And why should we all have to play along?

CremeCarmel · 30/12/2025 22:29

Sugar, which is very addictive, has been added to processed foods for a couple of decades. That doesn’t help.
In my case I’m basically quite greedy. I was the same as a smoker.

HollyIvy89 · 30/12/2025 22:33

Yes. I am seeing lots of people losing weight fast with little effort of healthy eating or exercise and also people who are not even over weight suddenly becoming gaunt and on the jag. It seems that for money people can now buy slimness. It’s bizarre.

SpinningaCompass · 30/12/2025 22:33

I know a handful of people who have clearly lost a lot of weight via the jabs this past year. Only one has been open and honest about it. The others all maintain they've changed their lifestyles etc and worked hard to lose the weight, but it's obvious they haven't. We know them.

People can do what they want, but the lying is baffling.

I have nothing against people taking them. There are risks yes but there is with being overweight too. I personally would only consider taking them as a very last resort, if I’d tried absolutely everything else, because I’ve seen side effects close up and have health anxiety. I’ve had failed weight loss attempts too so I’m under no illusion that it will be easy to get healthy.

I have issues with people lying about it because they’re literally contradicting themselves. They say that it’s no more admirable to lose it on your own, but then lie about using them like they’re ashamed. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about using a medication to help you, losing a large amount of weight can be one of the hardest things to do. But even if I fail to lose weight on my own and had no choice but to use them in future, I wouldn’t care about telling people and would still have huge respect for those who have the willpower to do it on their own.
