I'm stuck in a different city, where I'm supposed to celebrate in the new year.

Except I've just been diagnosed with pneumonia. I'm doing my best to get discharged, but it's not looking good.

Meantime, DH is looking after DD1. I miss them, but I'm not letting them nearby, because the hospital is full of coughing people and DD is prone to being chesty.

Feeling utterly fed up.

I’m sorry to hear you’re unwell. How long have you been in hospital?

ForAmberDreamer · 30/12/2025 13:52

Just today. Had a mild sniffles yesterday, Christmas present from DD, but last night I couldn't stop coughing and got myself to A&E via taxi. Got it on both sides, but left worse.

That's rubbish timing but please stay where you are and get everything treated properly. It'll save time and get you back on your feet more quickly in the long run 🙃

Oh golly, pneumonia is no minor matter op (I’ve had it a few times, it’s really debilitating), you need to take heed of medical advice. Try to relax and do what the doctors say. You’ll need to rest up for quite a while after you leave hospital too.

I'm so incredibly sorry and wish you a very speedy recovery.

Just feels like an utter jinx. Last year we were in A&E with DD, the year before that it was all about IVF. Just about ready to give up on Christmas!

Christmas with small children is always a terrible time for illnesses. My DS (21 months) was admitted the weekend before Christmas with RSV and last year my DD2 (4 at the time) and DS (9 months at the time) both had chicken pox.

I have a 12yo DD as well and had many years of only minor colds or coughs at Christmas so it really does just seem to be a couple of years of miserable illnesses.

Any advice to distract myself from 3 other coughing ladies in the bay? I'm not complaining, really, I'm the same, just a way to think of something else would be most welcome.

Have you got any headphones to listen to music? I know people can’t help it but constant coughing is so frustrating for me because I can’t tune it out.
