I'm so bored of people I know starting these silly businesses which are on the whole rubbish. I do not want you to flog me anything and no you are not an interiors influencer, expert on menopause, style, food influencer and I don't care what you ate, wore etc but I can't block you because you'd notice and it would be awkward when we run into each other. Also your business idea is rubbish and unlikely to earn you anything significant. Anyone else feel the same about this shameless exploitation by "friends".

AIBU and should I just block these tedious idiots.
OR should I keep up the charade for the sake of the friendship.

If you consider these people to be 'tedious idiots", I'm not sure why you'd want to keep up a friendship with them?

Catza · 30/12/2025 11:19

You can mute them and you won't see any of their content.
Having said that, I am a friend with a business and I don't give a shit if someone blocks me. They are clearly neither my target audience, nor a friend.

AgnesMcDoo · 30/12/2025 11:22

If they are tedious idiots then they are not your friends so don’t know why you’d not just block them.

ArseSkinForAFriend · 30/12/2025 11:24

Of course you should block them if you don't like what they're posting.

All they're trying to do by the sound of it is earn themselves a few quid.

Yes it's annoying but if any of my friends annoyed me that much, I'd block them and simply explain why.

Mysonwontwash · 30/12/2025 11:25

Just mute them, that’s what I always do

ToKittyornottoKitty · 30/12/2025 11:28

You can mute them then you will see nothing, this information is easy to find on instagram or google. Nobody needs friends like you though so you may as well just block them.

IllAdvised · 30/12/2025 11:30

Why are you friends with ‘tedious idiots’?

SuperGinger · 30/12/2025 11:54

They are good people who become tedious idiots on social media when they try to flog you stuff.

One particular friend is relentless. She has chucked a tonne of cash at the venture but it's a weak concept. I used to work as an analyst in this area and so I actually have a good knowledge of the sector. I'm 100% the target market but I don't want it foisted on me.

Two are amazing and hand on heart I have recommended their businesses and have but they are meticulous in their prep and everything is well thought out and researched. I happily follow them but they didn't turn their personal accounts into a business account to exploit her friends and they don't post every sodding day. In fact several people I know have spent a few hundred thousand pounds with one friend and we would definitely consider her services.

Or you could just not look at their Instagram? Scroll past, it's easy! 😂

ladyofshertonabbas · 30/12/2025 12:04

Just ignore, some people are desperate for cash, at least they are trying to earn a living, if not a little cringily.
