To think people are always on about the next thing rather than living in the moment

Seeing loads of Easter stuff etc it’s December still. Easter is roughly 100 days away not anytime soon.

I suggest you’re actually doing the thing you are criticising others for. I hadn’t even thought about Easter until this thread.

Agree - people taking Christmas trees down after dinner on Christmas day 🙄

It's like it's only about the anticipation and the build up and the actual event is just a let down so on to the next!

And in the next breath everyone banging on about how they're sooo busy and stressed and rushed all the time - slow down then and as you say, live in the moment a bit!

I got so so bored of all the martyr posts on SM about Christmas "prep" and now they are all whinging about being overwhelmed by the "mess" (er, all the superfluous crap YOU insisted your kids needed) and needing to "get rid of Christmas now". Chill the fuck out!!

I'm absolutely with you on this one. It ruins it for everyone as you can't hide from it. My kids notice when we shop, we hear ads for going on holiday the day after Christmas. Buying this, getting that, rushing to do this. I think a lot of the mental health issues nowadays are about the constant rushing/buying stuff and not stopping ( or stopping and looking at phones...).

"People" ?

We are not one homogeneous group.
We are all individuals.

I suspect there are some people who might do this, but all people don't, no.

Well no. First the tree goes down, then DD’s birthday , then valentines day, then…. Blackhole. Easter doesn’t feature in my brain, and it won’t for a few good months and I’m getting married around then.
Just like Christmas wasn’t happening until after mid November. The shops can do whatever they like. I run on my own schedule.

Stop being dictated to by people trying to take your money. Easy.

Crushed23 · 28/12/2025 22:45

Haven’t given Easter a moment’s thought, but I can’t wait for January. The tourists clear out of my city and I get to enjoy it again.

I’ve been not-living-in-the-moment since beginning of December, I suppose.

mondaytosunday · 29/12/2025 01:13

Well yes, where do you think the mindfulness thing came from? That quote from John Lennon ‘life is what happens to you when you’re busy making other plans’.

echt · 29/12/2025 02:21

But even if you're thinking about the future, you're doing it now. There is no other place in which to do or think about anything.

Contycont · 29/12/2025 03:09

If you're referring to crap in the supermarkets it's because they just want to take your money by waving something novel in your face.

My problem is that I am always checking the calendar, counting down to the next pay day or date that ex is giving me money, child benefit payment etc. I'm not quite living pay cheque to pay cheque but each payment is already spent in my head before it arrives. Definitely makes me feel that time is slipping by very fast.

Redpeach · 29/12/2025 03:29

Holiday ads start around now
