Has Christmas become very over the top and expectations of one day OTT

Christmas is a wonderful time for most children , but why are we all expecting too much for one day ?

Is there anything we can do to prevent arguments and disagreements with relatives ?

Has Christmas always been like that and when we were younger not noticed , the stress, the expense and expectations?

Different families have different expectations. If the way you are celebrating isn’t working for your family, look at changing it. However, just because you think it’s expecting too much doesn’t mean others will be the same.

i don’t notice much difference in the way of expectations personally vs when I was a dc. I don’t really get stressed about it because I don’t put loads of pressure on myself. Just enjoy for what is it.

Oh that sounds tough, do you usually get on with your family? We’ve had such a fun Christmas, lots of laughter, lots of food and drink, everyone seems to have loved their presents. But, we always get on when we get together, so it’s not really too much different.

Are we all though, doing it? Obviously not.

My childhood Christmases were shit. So were OH’s for various reasons. This means we do Christmas now in a way that makes us and DD happy, just the 3 of us. Everyone says it’s a bit quiet and sad and sympathetic head tilts and awwwws but guess who isn’t stressing for 4 weeks about buying all the food/drink, how much it costs, family dramas, how much they dread seeing x and so on.

My childhood Christmases were unhappy and stressful. I'm very pleased to say I'm doing much better for my children than my parents did for me.
