To prefer an abroad holiday?

We haven't been away abroad in 2 years. We will have 4 year old and 1 year old at the half term we are looking at a holiday for.

I want to go on a holiday abroad- a basic all inclusive with a kids club, play area and heated pool.
DH would prefer a luxury lodge with a hot tub in Scotland.

The lodge is cheaper and the trip will be quite soon after end of my mat leave and things have been a bit more squeezed. But I'm really keen to just have some sun and a swim and not be dragging the kids around in the piddling rain (again!).

Help us decide!

YABU - Scotland is the sensible choice
YANBU- Take the chance to get away

Presumably you’ll be self catering at the lodge which for me isn’t a holiday but more of a ‘trip’. I’d go for the abroad option.

I'd do Scotland this year and abroad next if finances allow

Could you suggest compromise to husband... somewhere like haven or park dean with loads to do for the kids? We used to love those holidays when ours were small, as did the kids. Won't be luxury hot tub lodge but lots to do, wven if weather bad

I’d compromise on somewhere in South U.K. this year (better weather) with the intention of doing abroad next year when, hopefully, your finances will be a bit healthier.

Which month are you looking at?

How is a random rental supposed to be a holiday with a toddler and a baby exactly?

Instead of going abroad (air BnB if you prefer an apartment or villa which is easier with kids, and buy food from the delis)
or AI hotel, so you can do nothing domestic

warmer weather, activities for the kids, wins every time

Abroad for me.

Why half term though? Does one of the adults work in a school?

Go abroad. All inclusive in the sun with pools etc is a far better option with two little kids. A hot tub just isn’t the same!

If you go self catering in a lodge it’s just the same as home in a different location.

Exactly this. Self catering with small children is just “same shit, different location” NOT a holiday.

The kids aren’t going to be able to use the hot tub.
