As someone who joined MN in 2010, I feel like my answer to this might be different from some of you.

If you read DS2, what does that mean to you?

Also, when & why did the meaning change?

YANBU - obviously DS2 is your second born son. Always has been, always will be.

YABU - any random boy child who happens to be 2 years old.

Dear son 2, the second born child. I’ve been on MN for 15 years

I read it as 2nd Darling Son (as opposed to Darling Son who is 2 years old).

Your second son. I've always assumed it denotes the sex + order of your children

Second son.

D - Darling
S - Son
2 - Second

Second son.

Though DS15 I would read as 15 years old, not 15th child.

Second son though sometimes people use to indicate age

Have also been on MN since 2010 and would assume that meant son who is 2, as someone else said if someone wrote ds15, you wouldnt automatically assume it was their 15th son.

Yeah. Back in my early days of MN DS15 would absolutely mean my 15th son. DS2 (15) would have meant my second born son who is 15 years old.

Reassuring that so far most people know what I’m talking about.

In 2010, DS2 100% did mean second born son.

I use this and for me it is darling second son. I’ve been on MN since about 2007.

I'm not disputing it, but thats not what I thought, at the time or all the years since.
