Maybe it's a hang over from feeling so blah about Christmas but I'm not feeling particularly optimistic about 2026. I've no reason to feel apprehensive about it but here we are. I'm not superstitious but feel like the next 12 months is going to be tough for my family. Obviously I hope that I'll be digging up this post this time next year pointing out that I was talking crap.

Do you think it will be a good year for you?

Yes, you have to be don't you?

I have no reason to believe it will be worse, and I'm fairly content so happy if that continues.

I'm 36 and have always looked forward to a new year, wondering what I'll get up to, what'll happen etc. This is the first year ever that I feel very flat about it, and I can't put my finger on why.

Trying! I’ve done well this year to get control of my health and diet and I plan to continue that next year. I’m enjoying my job and have 3 holidays already booked. Lots to look forward to and I’m starting 2026 a size 10 having started 2025 a size 18!

2024 was brutally tough for me and nearly broke me so it’s a huge relief things have got better.

Yes I'm feeling optimistic. I'm expecting my financial situation to improve, and I will have more time to myself as my youngest will start school. Some nice holidays planned, and normal life will be busy but expected to be similar to this year. Global issues unlikely to have much impact on my day to day life.

Im feeling similar. Can’t explain why.
I usually feel optimistic about a new year and looking forward to the things that are planned for the next year.. but this time I’ve got this feeling of apprehension that something bad is going to happen.
Theres no real reason to feel like this, Ive just got a feeling that something will happen over the next year and it won’t be good, and next Christmas things will look very different for our family.

The end of this year has been rubbish for my family and some of my close friends and their families. My hope is that things are not as bad next year. Not positive as such, but it would be nice just to progress on an even keel.

I hope we are both wrong. X

I'm feeling pretty optimistic about my own and immediate families lives-but not about the state of the country or world affairs.

The same for me. I have lots to look forward to, and I’m generally quite an optimistic person anyway, but I agree things are not good in the wider world, nor can I see short term improvement.

Diamondsbutnoknickers · 12/02/2026 13:31

Sure enough bad things are happening.

My husband has told me he has an ED. I naively thought he was just being fussy.

My daughter's mental health has plummeted. Last night I ACCIDENTLY hurt her. It was a genuine accident and I would never hurt her. She thinks I did it on purpose. I cant shake the feeling that it is a turning point for our relationship and I've lost her. 😪😪😪

Financially my husband has had to halve his hours.
