Contact lens stuck in eye on Xmas day

Posting here for traffic sorry. I rubbed my eye this morning (thank you children for the 4am wake up!) and felt my contact lens dislodge. Tried to get it out but couldn’t find it, and scratched my eyeball in the process and it bled slightly. Still can’t find the lens and have a red dot on my eyeball. It doesn’t hurt or feel like there’s anything in my eye. What can I do?

Splash loads of water in your eyes and give it 5 mins

It will pop out by itself eventually, if it has gone round the back. The contact not your eye!

It can't go round the back of your eye - there's a membrane preventing it. They just go under your lid.

I have lots of experience of this. Try these things, in the order below. Repeat if necessary.

Rinse eyes thoroughly with a stream of saline solution.

Close your eyes and move your eyeballs in circles.

Close your eye, put your finger on top of your eyelid, and gently move the eyelid back and forth, and in circles.

Make sure you are holding your eyelids open far enough, put your fingers on either side of where the lens is, and squeeze.

I've had the best luck with the eyelid-wiggling with the finger and with applying lots of saline. It's stuck and these things tend to break the seal.

Good luck!

I did this! The contact lens wasn't in there and I was so so sure it was! You've caused the same injury I did too

I spent all night at a&e, had a nurse poke my eye with the back of a pen to try and move it before i went to the opticians when they opened at 9am. It wasn't in there

I was very embarrassed, and we never did find the lens!

If the lens is properly in your eye then surely you know because the focus will be okay with that eye?

IME if the lens has slipped off anywhere you will definitely feel it, either under the lid, or in the corner of your eye when you look hard left or right. It can't go "behind the eye" as others have said. If you can't feel it I'd say its not there - what you're feeling is the irritation from the prodding and poking (been there, done every variation of that - including hunting endlessly for a lens both in my eye and all around the room only to eventually find both in the same eye. Drink may have been involved).

This happened to me a couple of days ago and it split in my eye. Got half out straight away then half came out the next day. Wouldn’t have thought to seek any attention tbh! Lots of blinking and maybe some saline?
