Wrapping Gate

FIL is staying with us. Arrived yesterday.

He’s had all his presents for our DCs delivered here or DH has bought things on his behalf. No attempt has been made by FIL to start wrapping them yet. He’s spent most of the day sitting on his laptop.

A couple of hours ago he asked how many
presents there were and then said “we’ve got a lot of wrapping to do this evening then”.

I have spent hours and hours over the last few days wrapping and finished early afternoon.

AIBU to leave him to it when he finally gets to it?

(DH apparently still had a few things to wrap, I’m not helping him either).

Tell him where they are, put the paper, scissors and sellotape out, while you all go and have a lovely evening in front of the telly.

Just give him the scissors and the sellotape and leave him to it.

DH has told him dinner is at 8:30 and so he might want to start wrapping beforehand. FIL had just made himself a G&T.

YANBU.

“We’ve got a lot of wrapping to do this evening then”

”Yes, you do!”

And then go mind your own business.

Good on your DH ! At least he isn’t a man who believes you need a vagina to be able to wrap.

He's going to say he's too drunk to wrap!

Put on a bandaid because you have a whopper of a paper cut.

I’ve yet to meet a man who can wrap a present so it doesn’t look like a mangled nest of garbage. Yes I know it’s called weaponised incompetence, but good luck with it anyway!

Ah the good old “we” meaning “you”. Play dumb. Say “Oh I’m so glad I don’t have any wrapping to do, I got mine done early!” Repeat as often as necessary.

He knows not to try his luck with things like this.

Go for a bath or upstairs to read or prep veg or whatever.

But Do not touch the gifts even to take them to him.

I'd say thank god I've finished mine and head off elsewhere. DH can help him if he wants.

To be fair to FIL, he’s taken the hint and come down with a load of gift bags. Perhaps he’s onto something…

Shame DH has bought some massive plastic tat on his behalf though.
