DG had a reversal today after having a V 12 years ago
I hsxe no children and after a lot of talking over the last few years we decided to try this route as all my fertility testing was good

Surgeon said it was an easy reconnection but the semen was thick and cloudy - possibly due to the length of time

Everywhere I have read says that this indicates a blockage higher up and a more advanced type of reversal is needed

I did put this to him but he shut me down and said it doesn’t always indicate this and those types of reversals are nowhere near as effective so this was the best option

Feel like my DH has possibly been through an ordeal for nothing aside from being £5000 worse off 😢

What’s DG. Grandad?

You really had to ask that?

gamerchick · 24/12/2025 12:19

Husband got both reconnected around the same length of time after his and they didn't work. Scar tissue or something.

Reversals are easier the closer to the time it was done apparently. I probably wouldn't get hopes up 12 years in but you never know.

Id probably look into other ways of getting pregnant but in the meantime, just wait and see.

Tbf my brain went to Grandad. But obviously it means something else.

Don't worry OP, I'm sure you're not out of options if it doesn't work- isn't it still possible to do IVF after a vasectomy? I would feel encouraged if I was you that the surgeon was so positive

Sure, but the context immediately makes it clear that that couldn't possibly be the case! Plus 'G' is next to 'H' on the keyboard, so it is obvious how the mistake came about. I thought the poster who asked was being stupid.

WorriedWilma0 · 24/12/2025 13:52

Surgeon said very little scar tissue and an easy re join

It was merely this talk about the thick semen that panicked me as everywhere I’ve read says this indicates a blockage higher up so the surgery is doomed to fail

I shouldn’t have googled to start with as would be in ignorant bliss now!

Of course the surgeon will feel optimistic. You’ve paid him 5k🤣

vasectomies are done with the view of ‘it’s permanent so be sure’ reversals don’t always work.

Gave the post an interesting new perspective, huh?

remarkablecauliflower · 24/12/2025 19:13

Yes it doesn’t always work, but OP I wanted to let you know that my (now ex) DP’s did, after 16 years. Good luck

BettysRoasties · 24/12/2025 19:18

I mean if I’d paid a surgeon 5k and then he went yeah no not likely I’d be pissed so obviously he will be optimistic.

However there is no promises which is why it’s supposed to be seen as a permanent contraction choice. Unless a sudden last chance saloon I assume you’re the step mother.

Will you be willing for ivf if this fails? Are babies a make or break for you?
