For various reasons I have a 2 hour window from 4-6pm to buy EVERYTHING for Xmas dinner.
For those of you who have been out today which supermarket would you send me to in order to have the best chance of success?
p.s I am definitely being unreasonable leaving it this late but that’s a whole other thread …

Bridlington Tesco at pan was busy but not unpleasantly so, everything well stocked, great system for accessing the checkout, very happy atmosphere, staff cheerful but VERY tired.

Joystir59 · 23/12/2025 17:16

10am not Pan

Gosh I bought my sprouts in mid November and they've been on a gentle simmer since then.

Oooh another person who likes them al dente.

MeAndMyGhost · 23/12/2025 17:20

There was a poster who worked in a supermarket who said just recently that the 24th was quieter than 22nd & 23rd, so you should be in luck tomorrow OP.

Aldi ate doing packs of different veg for 5 pence!
I was there the other day and they had a good selection of Turkeys in various sizes

Gentle simmer?!! Are you quite mad? They'll never be done in time ..

I was in Sainsbury’s at 7.30am this morning. It wasn’t too busy and the only things I couldn’t get were fresh rosemary and a jar of star anise - neither of which are essential to anything. 😃

Mithral · 23/12/2025 17:23

Biggish Sainsbury's was fine earlier - also doing the cheap veg. Quite busy but not manic.

AlexisP90 · 23/12/2025 20:52

Did the main shop a few days ago but just popped to a large sainsburys to get a few bits (toddler and DP found the chocolate stash.. not happy!)

I mena it was busy but not too bad. Short wait at the tills.

They had absolutely everything including a whole heap of turkeys. The veg was sky high still. If I had the freezer space I would definitely have picked more up for another day.

I MIGHT pop out tomorrow to grab some bargain meat... but only if im feeling brave to fight amoung the last minute men...

Where did you go in the end and did you manage to get everything? I did Tesco and Asda this morning. Tesco was much better imo, but neither were as busy as I expected. The only thing I haven’t managed to get is cranberry juice.

We were in Morrisons at 6am, loads of veg and turkeys etc and pretty quiet...then we drove to Tesco and it was mental.
The shops are shut for ONE DAY and once again people are behaving like it's the end of days.🤯

Including you … who was there at 6am 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

beardotdo · 23/12/2025 22:09

I went out this afternoon at 3pm. Couldn’t get a fresh turkey. Tried 2 Aldis, Morrisons, Lidl and Asda. None to be seen. Got everything else though. My try the next town tomorrow, if not we have a chicken.

Donewiththisshit · 24/12/2025 00:59

Thanks for all the moral support and making me laugh about the sprouts. I went to M and S and Costco, both busy but ok and a fair bit left. No bargains though which I was secretly hoping for!

”I went to a big Co-op, which was peaceful and had lots of stuff”

Was that FuneralCare or the shop?

Coffeeismyfriend1 · 24/12/2025 09:10

Everyone panics about their Christmas shopping but from my experience the supermarkets are practically giving stuff away at that time on xmas eve so I suspect you will be fine. Most of the major supermarkets will have nearly everything you need.

mondaytosunday · 24/12/2025 09:15

Oh yikes! Just been shorted by Tesco - 900grams ordered and only 200grams arrived! Last thing I wanted to do today was go to the supermarket but we have to have sprouts for Christmas!
