To be inwardly laughing at DH

Well not at him exactly but at his wrapping skills (or lack of them). He's a good egg, does his fair share of gift purchases and he always does his own wrapping so it's not weaponised incompetence. But he just can't do it. It's an abomination. He gives it a bloody good go every year but you can tell from miles away which presents he has wrapped. However fair play to him he doesn't ask for any help apart from his secret Santa and that is basically because if I don't do that one it won't actually be a secret. I would never laugh at him, I think its great he is happy to do it and not pass it over to others . He does have some very useful skills for Xmas though especially in the purchasing Nibbles dept. He can smell out a tub of twiglets at mile away

Well that depends. Does it look like he screwed the paper up first and used three times more than was needed or is it just that there's no bows or string, he hasn't used different paper for different people or from parents/Father Christmas, pattern doesn't match and you can see the sellotape?

Because in these cases there's often 'good enough' and Martyr Mother 'I have to do it all myself otherwise Christmas is ruined because I set myself impossible and unnecessary standards just I can moan about his lack of effort' level.

Does sound like the former but always worth checking it's not the latter Smile

sweeneytoddsrazor · 21/12/2025 13:09

Oh it's definitely the former, but he doesn't expect or ask me to do it. I have offered and he refuses, he likes to do his share and honestly the contents of said wrapping are usually pretty good. As I say he is a good egg and he gets 10 out of 10 for trying. Wouldn't swap him and his dodgy wrapping skills for anything

Your DH sounds like my adult DS. He is dyspraxic, and any present he wraps is a mess of multiple folds of wrapping paper and huge quantities of sellotape to hold it all together. He knows he is bad at it but it has become a happy family tradition to admire his efforts. At least he still does it, rather than delegating to his girlfriend!

Hollowvoice · 21/12/2025 13:31

I am rubbish at wrapping too

ThatGreenFawn · 21/12/2025 13:36

I'm rubbish at wrapping to. DH does all of ours and they all look perfect. I only ever wrap dh presents and I never have to label them as you can always tell which ones I have wrapped.

x2boys · 21/12/2025 13:39

And this is why I buy bags im terrible at wrapping presents.

Likewise and no patience for it
Uncoperative paper and sellotape🤯

My partner is an engineer - paid for his logic, precision, processes etc!!

Ever year he's outdone by wrapping paper even on the simplist of shapes. Everything he wraps looks like it's been there for days and is all crumbled and misshappened.

He knows he's rubbish at it but still thinks he'll master it ever year. Plaits is another one - he cannot make a plait if his life depended on it.

It's weird given so precise at most other things. He is however the best person to assemble a doll's house or racing track or any toys that need programming!

Knittedfairies2 · 21/12/2025 13:49

Doesn't he know about gift bags?
