DH has had an awful hair cut.

DH has recently had his hair cut and it looks really awful. He used to have lovely curly hair, which I genuinely loved, but he’s shaved the sides so now it’s like some sort of strange mohawk situation. I honestly can’t get used to it.
He’s a creative and isn’t working much at the moment, and I can’t help wondering if this haircut is related to that?
The problem is every time he walks into the room I’m shocked all over again. I try not to react but I must look visibly startled because he’s noticed I’m not a fan.
I know it’s his hair and it will grow back, but AIBU to feel irrationally annoyed by it? Has anyone else struggled to adjust to a partner’s drastic hair decision, or do I need to get a grip and pretend I like it until it grows out? But I’m also worried that it’s going to grow back all strange lengths!

Oh god, so many truly cringe haircuts for men now.. shaved sides, dead cat on top. Appalling. Wtf is wrong with them? Can’t they see in the mirror they look like neglected nineteenth century orphans?!

yes and all the men round here under 30 have Benson Boone moustaches

DH shaved his head once. I hated it.

The thing is, if I had my hair cut and it was my choice of haircut, and I liked it, I would politely invite him to do one if he complained about it, so I kept my mouth shut and when it grew back in I praised that look to the skies and made it very clear that I love it when he has hair. Any hair 😁 Not the aforementioned 'I ordered Phil Mitchell from Temu' look... Last time he had his hair cut he came home and said 'I got them to leave it a bit longer on top because I know you prefer it'.

ah thats sweet

About 5 years into our relationship, we were on holiday in Cornwall and my DP went to the shower. He just randomly decided to shave off his beard and moustache!

When he walked back in, I screamed as I didn’t recognise him at all. He honestly looked so different and I was horrified that he had a weird bum chin I had never seen before

It took a long time to get used to it and I just wanted him to grow it back. He did, but it was a difficult year and it really threw me. I know that sounds really shallow but a complete change of how someone looks is weird.

We were married for 40 years before he died though, so I did get used to it, and so will you. You might want to buy him a woolly hat, so his ears don’t get cold and you can’t see it 😊

did it really feel it was a difficult year becasue of that?

As a man can I ask was this his usual barber or someone different. I say this because, and whilst I don't have hair now and cut my own, I have had some truly dreadful haircuts. Not all barbers are the same.

There was a comedian who pointed out that a woman can go to the hairdresser's and say "I'm not really sure, what do you think" and come out with a fantastic cut and style. A man does this and the barber thinks he's a fucking idiot and gives him an idiots haircut.

Mr Monkey once accentually got a mullet a day before we went on holiday. I made him go back and get it re cut.

That seems to be the fashion among the fourteen year old ne'er do wells around here! I mean, you really can't say anything, it IS his hair, but you might try pointing out all the scallys and the skateboard boys with the same haircut and he might not try it again.

I was going to say. It sounds like the haircut teenagers have. Even other teenagers make fun of them!

The guy I’m dating has hair like that, I love it as it looks styled now instead of just a big bush.
