Relationship of around 3-4 months. Ive not got loads of money so cant justify spending a great deal. We have shared interests that are quite nerdy, gaming, anime, etc. I know his favourite anime and in thinking of hand drawing and watercolour painting the main character, not very big, around A5 size, im pretty good at copying images and characters accurately, and have used watercolours for anime/comic book characters for around 25 years i know so it wouldnt be completely crap. He has a gaming room full of merch, figures, art work etc, streams his gaming so the room is important to him, so its up his alley. But, is it naff? to gift something handmade? I know he has spent around £50 on me, i have bought him gifts at around £30 already too.

Can you share a painting of something similar so we can judge the skill and whether its a good idea or not.

You don’t have to match the value of his gift, if you have spent £30 that is enough.

Has he ever complimented your art?
pers I would hold off on a handmade gift this early.

I think that sounds like a lovely idea and very thoughtful given his interests. I love (well made) homemade gifts, and this sounds like it would fit that category.
