To think there is no way I can lose 11 stone without surgery

Just seems a huge amount I’ve managed to lose a stone or two which I’ve now gained back but never a massive amount

WLI are realistically the only way

Beachcomber74 · 19/12/2025 20:21

WLI game changer

Evertonish · 19/12/2025 20:25

I think you're right. Of course there are a handful of examples where people in your position have succeeded but they are very few. And as you've said, you've already put in hard work before, have it show results for a bit but the found it impossible to maintain them.

I think surgery or GLP-1 medication is the way to go. 11 stone is an overwhelming task, and it's not a personal failing on your part so you don't have to punish yourself to lose it - give yourself some help. Maintaining a healthier weight will be work enough, don't flog yourself to even get to base camp.

Ratioed · 19/12/2025 20:34

I’ve lost 10.5st using WLI. Absolute game changer for me.

Is this a possibility for you?

idontwantthefluplease · 19/12/2025 20:35

Of course you can. One lb at a time. There are people before you that have done it, so it’s not impossible.

Yes I mean tbh I’ve seen very few people who have lost even say six stone plus without surgery but just not an option for me to pay privately.

I don’t think you’re right. I say this as someone who struggles with eating. My reasoning is that you need to sort the mental side of it out - surgery doesn’t stop that and causes horrific mental struggles when you physically can’t eat.

id suggest weight loss injections for that amount but you may need surgery for excess skin if that’s what you mean.

NeedForSpeedyGonzales · 19/12/2025 20:37

I've lost six stone in a year in Mounjaro, and have another four stone to go.

Absolutely life changing.

No surgery.

Dramatic · 19/12/2025 20:38

I need to lose 3 stone to be in the healthy weight category and even that seems impossible to be honest.

Would you qualify on the NHS. If you want to change your life then I think you should pursue it

InfoSecInTheCity · 19/12/2025 20:39

Mounjaro, 9 stone loss here, skin is an issue but will likely be an issue with a gastric bypass too. I am on the Mounjaro with more than 5 stone to lose thread and there are a few of us who’ve been going over a year and are approaching 10stone loss.

Twasasurprise · 19/12/2025 20:41

I've lost 7.5 stone on Mounjaro in a year. Surgery isn't the only option.

Hibernatingtilspring · 19/12/2025 20:41

Is there no chance of you qualifying for WLI on the NHS, presumably you would have a very high BMI if you have 11 stone to lose? Weight loss surgery is effective for most people but even if it goes well the long term restrictions are so drastic, I genuinely think in a few years time we'll look back at the surgery options and consider them pretty barbaric. They can be life saving, but they come at such a huge cost.

23Shadows · 19/12/2025 20:42

I lost 10 stone via Slimming World a few years ago so, yes, it can be done without surgery or GLP-1s. But if you can afford GLP-1 it'll make things a hell of a lot easier for you.

What is WLI

Twinkylightsg · 19/12/2025 20:43

What is WLI

Weight loss injections.

I’m on mounjaro, I have 40 years of obesity and yo-yo dieting behind me.

I’d go to your gp to see if you qualify. If not I’d do everything I could to fund it myself.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 19/12/2025 20:48

I was at this point a year ago as it was affecting my life so much.

We couldn't really afford wli but after a year of mounjaro I have lost 8 stone.

Its been truly life changing. I can't even start to say how different life is. Getting in and out of the shower, not having to worry about how far the car is from teh car park, choosing clothes.

I'm still nearly 3 stone oversight and technically obese. And I have a round stomach. But it's been truly life changing..

Id recommend wli, take it slow and honestly life changing.

Oh and for me adhd medication too...

ChristmasHug · 19/12/2025 20:50

It's very much possible but very, very hard and unlikely without great support and a lifestyle that makes it straightforward to prep and eat well and exercise - so money, time, knowledge, facilities, etc, etc

I honestly think the longer term issue is keeping it off, you've moved your weight set point and unless you are able to move it significantly lower the weight will come back, see The Biggest Loser contestants.

WLI are likely to best route, expect to have to stay on them. I know a few people who've had bipasses maybe 10 years ago, and whilst they had the intended effect they're all ill, require constant injections and I'm sure have shortened they're lives.

BootsandCatss · 19/12/2025 20:55

I lost 8 stone doing nothing other than being in a calorie deficit, I’ve kept it off for around 18 months now and it can absolutely be done by sticking to it. I tried every diet going before that and never stuck to them.

DuckWithOneWing · 19/12/2025 21:26

I lost just over 12 stone without surgery and have been maintaining since March.

burgundybirdie · 19/12/2025 21:33

I lost 12 stone without surgery, just a calorie deficit and exercise. It did take nearly 2 years, but I've kept it off since mid 2016. So it can be done, but surgery would have definitely been a faster option. I don't have any experience with WLI, but I'd think that they'd be worth considering at least.

Dontyoulooktired · 19/12/2025 21:37

I lost 15 stone by myself.

I was scared into it after something horrific happened health wise though. I will never go back. I just stopped eating shit all day long. I only unprocessed, single ingredient foods now, have done for 6 years.

LocalHobo · 19/12/2025 21:37

Look at 'slimmingandthecity' on Instagram. She lost 16stone on Slimming World. So yes, perfectly possible.

Pieceofpurplesky · 19/12/2025 21:38

I had 11 stones to lose. Never thought I would do it - am now 6 stone down on Mounjaro. I can't really afford it but do a second job to afford and it's been a life changer.
