Cottage cheese

Is it just me or does nobody else like the watery runny cottage cheese from most supermarket offerings? The only acceptable cottage cheese is Longley Farm.

Bloodylovecheese · 19/12/2025 19:56

Agreed...only Longley Farm is acceptable

Blondiney · 19/12/2025 19:57

You are correct.

worcesterpear · 19/12/2025 20:00

Yes, I can't understand why supermarkets continue selling their own brand rubbish, and have been for years. I put it down to people on diets with no taste. Lots of supermarkets (since I first thought this) have started stocking Longley Farm, but there are some who still don't, and even eg Marks and Spencer's own is no competion. Maybe LF have some principles and refuse to accept poor terms.

DarkEyedSailor · 19/12/2025 20:03

Longley Farm cottage cheese is beautiful. Their yoghurt is also lovely, especially the apple one.

Couldyounot · 19/12/2025 20:04

Well, it used to be the only cheese guaranteed to please, but that was 30 years ago. Everything seems to have gone downhill really

Crikeyalmighty · 19/12/2025 20:08

I eat Longley farm every day - ideally the chives one

Pushmepullyou · 19/12/2025 20:11

I live within a mile of Longley Farm, it is a proper idyllic farm with lots of nature friendly planting, a wind turbine and beautiful Jersey cows meandering around. Longley Farm all the way for cottage cheese, yoghurts and butter!

FadedRed · 19/12/2025 20:16

The only shop that stocks it within miles of me is a Poundland in a retail park a couple of miles away. It’s worth the extra effort.

FrankSinatraonToast · 19/12/2025 20:20

I love Longley Farm too but could only get it locally in Heron and Poundland and both no longer stock it! I've found a lovely cottage cheese in a Polish supermarket which isn't as thick but tastes lovely. Tesco and Sainsbury's also sell it. The brand is Piatnica.

MyThreeWords · 19/12/2025 20:24

Even Langley Farm isn't as good as it used to be.

The main thing, though, is to avoid the low-fat/no-fat versions of cottage cheese, which are rank.

In the little convenience-store versions of the main supermarkets, they often stock only the low-fat/no-fat versions. Madness.

morbidcuriosity · 19/12/2025 20:25

Longley farm is top notch. But only a few shops sell it. .the protein one from lidl is OK, not runny, quite thick and will do if I can't get Longley farm.

bonesandbooth2025 · 19/12/2025 20:35

Lidl full fat one is nice, v thick
and Philadelphia have brought out one labelled protein which is also good (it was a sub in my shopping!)

canuckup · 19/12/2025 20:36

Yup.

InfoSecInTheCity · 19/12/2025 20:42

Agreed Longley Farm full fat is the best, Morrisons and Iceland usually have it, Iceland it’s in the 5 for £5 offer so you can’t use either buy all the cottage cheese or mix and match with the other things in the offer.

bumchic · 19/12/2025 20:44

I like the supermarket one mixed with Skyr and topped with seeds and peanut butter for high protein alternative to yogurt at breakfast.

For eating as is it’s LF all the way.

SnowTrouble · 19/12/2025 20:49

I don't mind the Tesco fat free, which is half the price of LF. I made the mistake of getting the Aldi fat free one once and my word that was disgusting.

Sesma · 19/12/2025 20:51

Longley Farm has recently appeared in M&S and Waitrose to my joy, before that I used to see it very occasionally in Asda

Moraxella · 19/12/2025 20:52

Piatnica a close second.

if all else is lost I add a spoon of marmite to supermarket cottage cheese

Belindabelle · 19/12/2025 21:35

Yester Farm cottage cheese is excellent. Similar to Longely.

Nospringchix · 20/12/2025 12:18

Definitely, and it has to be the full fat one. I'm always disappointed if it is out of stock in my supermarket delivery and will hand back any substitutions.

Bjorkdidit · 20/12/2025 12:50

I've been to Longley Farm this morning and picked up two 450 g tubs of cottage cheese and some double cream from their clickand collect lockers and had a nice walk in the nearby countryside to justify the trip. Works out quite a bit cheaper than supermarkets.

Some of the lockers were rammed so some people were obviously getting their Christmas orders in.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/12/2025 13:07

Do they do cream cheese?

Stuff in supermarkets is so watery now.

l love Longley Farm cottage cheese.

Bjorkdidit · 20/12/2025 18:11

They do and it wasn't long after I'd placed my order and gone past the cut off for weekend collection that I thought 'I could have got some cream cheese too' Hmm and this was after browsing the whole website to choose (there's a minimum order of £5 but I eat a lot of cottage cheese but you usually get 3 weeks until the use by date and it's fine for at least a fortnight after that in my experience.

ExquisiteSocialSkills · 20/12/2025 18:13

Waitrose full fat one is quite nice.

Wonderknicks · 20/12/2025 18:14

Yes, why is cream cheese so awful & watery? In Canada (& I presume the US) it still comes in proper blocks.
