Sorry, I’ve posted a few times now - I suffer with health anxiety since my son was born premature and this is the first time my girls been this poorly.

She’s had a fever for 3days now. ( tonigh it has got to 39.5 again, after being fairly low all day - I thought we’d cracked it)

She’s got no appetite

She’s got a cough

She’s mentioned her belly being achy a few times.. so I checked it and it feels a little swollen and hard?

She’s on antibiotics for 48 hours now.

I’m instantly thinking of something scary, like childhood C. This is probably my health anxiety ( which I am seeking help for )

But is swollen sore belly normal in tonsillitis?!

And why hasn’t the temperature gone already!!

Ahhh!! Thanks to everyone that replies xxx

When did she last poo? Antibiotics mess with tummies. I’d expect temps to stop after 48hrs of antibiotics if it is a bacterial infection and they are the right antibiotics. If she’s no worse maybe see how she is in morning. If it’s a flu like virus 3 days of
high temp not unusual. Is she eating anything? drinking plenty and weeing? Edited to ask her age?

She done a poo this morning and just a few minutes ago actually. I’m breastfeeding my youngest so I haven’t felt her belly since this one!!!!

she’s also burping a lot which she’s giggling at.

im so worried, I keep thinking of something like leuk and I don’t know why, just the temps and distended belly I guess.

This is probably my health anxiety

Yes, it's that.

Your child doesn't have cancer. You're being irrational.

My DS gets tonsillitis a lot, the antibiotics mess with his tummy and just generally he’s out of sorts for a good few days. He usually has a constant high fever for the first few days on antibiotics so I think it’s good that hers has been low all day. I think it’s common for fevers to spike in the evening.

Hereforthecommentz · 19/12/2025 18:21

Why would you jump from tonsillitis to leukemia? Children can have fever for several days, my child had scarlet fever and had fever for about 5 days the antibiotics did sort it out in the end. Kids get ill so you do need to carry on with getting help with your irrational fears. The belly could be anything I'd just keep and eye if she's going to toilet I wouldn't worry. My bet is in three days time she will be right as rain.Edit to add I've had tonsillitis several times, it is painful and you can get flu like symptoms with it so it sounds like it's all part of it. Lots of cuddles and water.

When my niece has really bad tonsillitis (hospitalised) she had a sore, swollen tummy. The dr said it was normal and it was all of her lymph nodes firing up and fighting the infection.

I have health anxiety too, so I understand how you feel.

I get health anxiety too.
It's very common for children's tummy's to swell when unwell as the lymph nodes swell.

TooHotWaterBottle · 19/12/2025 19:23

Could be the antibiotics re the bad tummy, but mine (who were frequent tonsillitis sufferers) ALWAYS had tummy ache (and sometimes were physically sick) when they had it. Something to do with the glands in that area of the tummy apparently.

JollyGreenSnake · 19/12/2025 21:25

Mesenteric lymphadenitis is very common for children, and explains a lot of abdominal discomfort when children are sick with other illnesses.

You really need to work on health anxiety.
