DC & DH are all out. I only have the place to myself for about 3 hours. I am WAH but the silence is GOLDEN.

Oh that must be bliss.

I haven't had the house to myself since 2001.

I honestly wouldn't even know what to do.

Lifejigsaw · 19/12/2025 14:19

I don’t understand how this is possible?! Do your partners never take the kids out?

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 19/12/2025 14:21

I have an empty house today - it's my only chance to clean before Christmas and I'm not enjoying it!

redskydelight · 19/12/2025 14:23

I so rarely have the house to myself that I waste the time marvelling at the silence. So don't do that!

(I have an adult DS who works at home and only goes out in the evening. DH also works at home for 2 days a week and gets home from work on his work days before I do, and pretty much never goes out in the evening, to the poster who wondered how it was possible)

Hufflemuff · 19/12/2025 14:23

Your husband never takes your children out alone?? Wtf?

Bjorkdidit · 19/12/2025 14:34

I don't know what is worse, never getting the house to yourself or, when you do, spending the time cleaning.

Surely there's more to life than that?

Chocolateismylovelife · 19/12/2025 14:39

I am so jealous.

Mt563 · 19/12/2025 14:56

Pleased for you!!

Though I'd much rather time alone outside the house personally. I get an evening or two a week at home with just the kids sleeping upstairs which I like but not sure what I'd do with a whole day.

aLFIESMA · 19/12/2025 16:57

Lovely, DONT ruin it by doing anything silly such as 'tidying' OP!

Holluschickie · 19/12/2025 16:59

How on earth can you all not think.of anything to do but clean?

TheChosenTwo · 19/12/2025 17:05

Oh lovely op but how/why?!
I’ve got an evening to myself (well until about 9pm).
I logged off work at 4, went for a quick walk,
came home and the fire is blazing now, I’m under a blanket watching Bridget jones and MNing. Dh is at his Christmas do, dc1 is at work and dc3 is out at the cinema and then going for dinner, will be back later.
Im planning on a Chinese takeaway, will probably see if my sister wants to come over when she’s finished work to join, Chinese is always better with more people!
Hope you enjoyed your peace even though it’s over now.

Bloody hell! Hearing this kind of thing makes me glad I never had kids. I’d have gone insane without proper space or solitude ever.

Holluschickie · 19/12/2025 17:11

I have kids and have had solitude since they were 2.
one swallow does not a summer make.

mindutopia · 19/12/2025 17:16

This is bonkers. Why doesn’t your Dh ever take the kids out on his own? Dh takes ours out probably every weekend for a few hours. For about 6 months of the year when it’s warm enough, they go away camping one weekend a month (I stay home on animal duty). Dh is taking them to visit family in the new year before school goes back for several days. I also take them out solo and away on my own too.

Mikart · 19/12/2025 17:53

Your bar is low

vanillalattes · 19/12/2025 17:54

That is so bloody depressing - it's not something to be celebrated.

Nobumsonthetable · 19/12/2025 17:55

God OP I hope you enjoyed every second.
Im divorced and share the kids 50/50
with exh. I have loads of alone time and I bloody love it
