To think landlords should have to pass a personality test?

There are too many impulsive, volatile, careless landlords causing chaos for tenants.

AIBU to think landlords should have to pass the same checks tenants do?

Tenants are not required to take a personality test.

What a daft thread.
Some people on here need a test gor suggesting such an untruthful and stupid thing.

While your running landlords down
Don't forget they are providing you with somewhere to live. So you need them.

No but maybe tenants should! A landlord is letting a complete stranger live in what is likely their most valuable asset. They could damage it, cause a nuisance, stop paying rent and there’s not a lot a landlord can do. Eviction takes months.

If a prospective tenant wants to give a landlord a personality test there’s nothing stopping them from asking. They’ll most likely spend a long time looking for somewhere to rent though.

What should be happening is the complete and total professionalisation of landlords. To stop someone with little to no knowledge or experience setting themselves up as a landlord and causing problems for the tenants with their total lack of understanding of basic laws.
One-man-bands renting out a single property that they are heavily emotionally invested in should become a thing of the past in my view.

No, but tenants should!

My son and his husband have a small buy to let which is their pension. The last tenant was uncivilised, rude and wrecked their gorgeous little house. Many landlords including my brother are selling up as everything is now being stacked against them so who could blame them? So maybe tenants should take a personality test?

Iwantmybed · 18/12/2025 22:36

Particularly one of those tests that are basically horoscopes like Enneagram or Myers Briggs. Tenants to take the test so they can see if they are suitable to have a business relationship as part of the application process.

Well, the way things are going, you will get your wish. When private rental is owned by large investment funds and corporations who only care about maximising returns on their investment, you may have second thoughts. Be careful what you wish for.
