First reply nails it. I mean they are like magic as a thing to change with - I have one for surfing and it’s amazing. But they are literally designed to absorb and wick water so they’re not a standing around in the rain watching kids play football or hiking thing IMO (I admit I havent tried it)

For getting cold standing around problems the heated gilet from Hybex is life changing

for just getting bastard wet and cold when out my Icewear coat (from Iceland which might not be helpful) is brilliant I have never got wet wearing it. And I also have a horse so spend a lot of time outside when I wish I wasn’t 😁

SparkleSpriteDust · 18/12/2025 14:34

If you are a surfer or an all year round outdoor swimmer then, yes.

taralovey · 18/12/2025 14:56

I love mine and if anyone ever comments on it, I say it's been a great spend.

I wear it for walking the dog in the rain, I wear it walking to the shop in the rain, if it's freezing outside and no rain I wear it. We also do a lot of camping, both wild and on campsites. It's ideal.

I am aware there is a Facebook page called DryRobe Wankers and I am waiting for the day I am posted on that page for not wearing it as intended, i.e cold water sports etc x

SpanielsGalore · 18/12/2025 17:33

I've got a Regatta Waterproof Changing Robe - £40 odd on Amazon.

I love it. It keeps me dry in heavy downpours. It's so warm, I'm still only wearing a t-shirt underneath it. But it's very lightweight. And it dries quickly once home.

And I absolutely do not give a shit if people think I look like a (fake) wanker in it. The fact that I went for bright pink probably makes them think that alone. 😂

TON618 · 18/12/2025 18:50

Proud DRW here. I actually have a cheaper Regatta one for dog walks and I wouldn't be without it. Even if my new name at work is 'Dementor'.

MigGirl · 18/12/2025 19:00

Both DD and DS have cheaper ones for swimming. That's what they are for and I have seen the odd person wearing one as a coat recently and thought why? They look really odd as a coat and are meant to be roomy so you change in them. DD particularly likes it for open water swimming.

But please get an actual outdoor coat if that's what you need a coat for. I love my Peter Storm coats, also DD has a OEX one which is also good.

LuckyShark · 18/12/2025 19:11

Love it
Wear it constantly- summer after paddleboarding/bodyboarding

In summer evenings at a BBQ - utilising the handy wine bottle sized inner pocket.

After swimming in the gym - just shove it on (suit off) and drive home - desperately hoping im not in an accident.

Walking in wind or rain.

Rugby and hockey sidelines.

Im a cold being so also lots of places I might go where friends will want to sit outside, even on a "nice" day. I need the dryrobe to not be a shivering mess - whilst everyone else is in a light dress or summer cardigan

So yes, get one - in writing this is think mine is pretty much a security blanket now.

Dryrobe wanker and fucking proud!

lovemyaussie · 18/12/2025 19:13

I walked the dog in mine today . It’s not what I bought it for, but it kept me nice and dry - unlike my expensive Berghaus walking coat. My lower legs got wet though where the water dripped off it, so waterproof trousers will be going on next time too .

SeriousTissues · 18/12/2025 19:15

I was really reluctant to get one but couldn’t find a coat that kept me dry and warm and didn’t adversely affect my sensory issues. I was walking a lot outside at the time with my job and it was an absolute godsend. I’ve also used it as a change robe and for when I’ve (inevitably) fallen in whilst kayaking and have had to drive home wet! It’s been great being able to sit on wet benches and tend to small children, which one of my previous jobs used to involve.

LargeJugs · 18/12/2025 19:17

I wear an element karbon rainbow zebra one. Yes I look like a twat but it keeps me warm and dry in my wheelchair so fuck anyone with a problem. My autistic child loves his. It’s the only coat he will wear.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 18/12/2025 13:41

If you want to appear on the FB dryrobe wankers group, go for it. I sold mine becuase of that group

This made me laugh. We were on holiday in Cornwall and the locals were making find of the ‘dry robe brigade’.

The night work but are pretty horrible and aren’t a popular in a lot of circles.

Gloriia · 18/12/2025 19:39

Unless you're doing sports in the rain then jumping in car, no. They look so daft for everyday wear. A couple of people wear them for dog walking near me they just look so silly with a huge dressing gown style garment billowing away. Waterproof coats more than suffice.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 18/12/2025 20:41

They look ridiculous

‘Aren’t popular in a lot of circles’ just makes me want to wear mine more often 😆

Bought my dh one years ago for after watersports.
i ended up nicking it when we went camping as it’s so warm! So now have my own.
I wouldn’t wear dog walking as I’d get far too hot, but others do and seem happy enough.

Couldn’t care less what anybody else thinks. If they want to look fabulous and cold that’s up to them.

Helpwithdivorce · 18/12/2025 22:10

Bought one for changing after swimming/surfing. Live in it now. Wear it on the school run. To the shops. Watching football matches. Honestly the best coat I’ve ever owned

blankcanvas3 · 18/12/2025 22:12

I judge anybody wearing a dry robe as a coat

Mumofteenandtween · 18/12/2025 22:12

The best thing about them is that they are big enough to go over another coat. Two coats! With 2 coats, a jumper, a long sleeve T shirt and a vest top along with a hat and scarf I am finally not cold when I spend endless hours outside watching my kids do their sport.

Radiator981 · 18/12/2025 22:14

Amazing for keeping my daughter warm in outdoor netball tournaments (and hand warmers!).

BigButtons · 18/12/2025 22:16

My dry robe is extremely waterproof, warm and wind proof. I wear it as a coat and it is bloody brilliant.

I think you need to change your focus/ why on earth would you be bothered by what people wear to keep themselves warm?

Sickoffamilydrama · 18/12/2025 22:21

ThePoetsWife · 18/12/2025 21:58

what will you use it for? I have one of these for dog walking and camping: https://deltaroam.com/?srsltid=AfmBOooE_L0yt3h8ToxwI6ykv7oeUA3yOCGv-BO7JhrddHqvXO_pp9_c

waterproof And warm as well as good coverage

Beat me to it, I have one too live as far away from the sea as possible in the UK.

Bought one last year I did load of research before buying and while didriksons are great they weren't quite as long as these and less pockets.

These are kind of a slightly tailored but still massive and loads of pockets did I mention the pockets Wink

I use mine for dog walking, watching DD playing Rugby and DS football. Great for sideways rain has a wired hood and room for layers underneath.

I'll probably be a dry robe wanker that travels and use it when I go away to a rainy possibly snowy city break in January so many coats promise dry and don't deliver.

FrangipaniBlue · 18/12/2025 22:26

Laiste · 18/12/2025 14:05

This made me laugh!

Very honest of you. Why though - is a person in a dry robe a wanker?

I don't have one but i see people out in them round here (loooong way from the sea!) and are a bit envious on days like today !

People in dry robes are not necessarily wankers per se

But people wearing dry robes not for their intended purpose are “dry robe wankers”
