My husband has just come home from work as a police officer and told me today he got spit in the face by someone he arrested, alcoholic he said but not a drug addict. I am a bit concerned, am I wrong? Should he be tested?

I mean there’s a reason it’s assault. His work should advise him of health and safety procedures after this.

Adeline767 · 16/12/2025 22:49

He js being so blasé about it. That’s my concern.

Ugh that’s so horrible. Sorry it happened to him.

What’s his force’s procedure? What do they test for?

Coffeeishot · 16/12/2025 22:50

I am assuming his trainig/work/station will have advised him. What sort of contamination are you thinking of , your poor husband though.

He might be used to it sadly, people are disgusting, does he usually tell you stuff

Tested for what?

I’m not really sure? But I’m a bit worried about intimacy.

I don’t know. I just check it out, he doesn’t seem particularly concerned about it. Just a bit disgusted myself too.

Yes it's disgusting, but he will have had training in what to do and how to respond to these situations. If he's not concerned, you shouldn't be either.

Adeline767 · 16/12/2025 23:52

Just googled it, herpes, strep, colds, viruses, norovirus and TB (obviously were present) 🙈

He’s been a police officer for 25 years and has never once has received training on being spat on. And how to deal with it.

Oh goodness yes, being spat on is the most disgusting act. He’s assaulted all the time but it’s just resistance and just the normal stuff he deals with in each day.

Being spat in the face is just a bit concerning. My colleague was stabbed before and had to have so much testing before he could even

Unless it was in his eye or mouth I wouldn’t be too concerned.

I'm surprised bodily fluid contamination has never come up before

isitmytime · 17/12/2025 00:41

I got spat on, straight in the face (droplets in eyes and mouth) absolutely vile and it still makes me angry 8 years on.
I’m assuming his force provides the HEP B vaccine and that he washed himself fully afterwards I wouldn’t be overly concerned.

his officer safety/first aid training covers what actions he should be taking and unless the perpetrator has a contagious illness that has been disclosed there’s no testing that will be offered.
it’s obviously disgusting but sadly it’s far too common.
